Graduate Nursing Programs
Discover a rewarding start to your nursing career with our Graduate Program. Gain diverse clinical experiences across various settings over 12 months. Our programs offer extensive orientation, ongoing professional development, and daily support from Clinical Development Nurses (CDNs).
Choose from two streams:
- Canberra Hospital campus, including University of Canberra Hospital, Alexander Maconochie Centre (AMC), Dhulwa Secure Mental Health Unit and community centres.
- North Canberra Hospital campus, including Clare Holland House campus.
You will have opportunities to work across a broad range of clinical areas, depending on the campus, including:
- Acute medical, surgical and cancer care
- Mental and forensic health
- Sub-acute care
- Community nursing
- Outpatient clinics
- Specialty units and sub-specialty streams.
What we offer
- Flexible positions: choose from full-time or part-time roles to suit your lifestyle.
- Supportive environment: benefit from hands-on guidance by our dedicated CDNs. The CDN will support your transition into the nursing workforce, supporting your learning needs, provide feedback on your work performance, enhance your professional development and assess your competence.
- Rotations: enjoy two six-month rotations or a 12-month specialised program tailored to your interests.
- Professional development: access a minimum of two fully paid study days and scholarships for postgraduate study.
- Preceptor Program: receive mentorship and support from experienced nurses.
- Supernumerary shifts: gain confidence with additional support during your initial shifts.
Eligibility
To apply, you will need to:
- have completed a relevant nursing course within 12 months of the program start date
- hold AHPRA registration before the program starts
- be an Australian Citizen, Permanent Resident or an appropriate Visa holder with full working rights.

Graduate Midwifery Programs

Our Canberra Hospital and North Canberra Hospital campuses offers a variety of clinical experiences and professional opportunities. With support from all members of the health care team, you will develop the skills and confidence to work at the full scope of midwifery practice. Midwifery leaders and educators provide a range of resources to help you grow in your professional role as part of a high-quality team.

Post Graduate Diploma in Midwifery
Canberra Health Services currently has a partnership with the Charles Sturt University for the Post Graduate Diploma in Midwifery. The diploma allows you to work as a student midwife and study while becoming a qualified midwife.
Applicants must be Registered as a Nurse to be eligible for the program.
