Accessibility

North Canberra Hospital has been designed so that everyone can easily access our facilities, using inclined walkways and ramps throughout. All levels of our hospital are accessible by lifts.

Wheelchairs are available for use while at the hospital.If you need a wheelchair, you can get one when you are admitted into hospital. You can also get help at the main reception area on level one of the Xavier Building.

Cafes and food

  • Zouki Café, Ground Floor, Xavier Building. 
    Open Monday to Friday 7am to 5pm.
  • Madeleine’s Café, Level 2, Marian Building. 
    Open Monday to Friday 8am to 11pm, Sunday and Public Holidays 8am to 8pm.
  • Zouki Café, Ground Floor, Calvary Clinic. 
    Open Monday to Friday 8am to 4pm.

There are snack and drink vending machines in the Xavier Building Foyer and the Marian Building.

The closest supermarkets and specialty stores are at the Jamison Centre and Westfield Belconnen.

Pastoral care and spiritual care support services

Chapel and Chaplaincy

The chapel is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. It is a calm and restful environment.

People of all faiths can visit the Chapel.

There is a schedule of Catholic and Anglican services displayed outside the Chapel.

For Chaplaincy Services, please ask a member of your clinical team to arrange a Pastoral Care Team member to visit you.

Pastoral Care

Compassionate, emotional support and spiritual care is available for you, your family, and friends. Our Pastoral Care Program acknowledges your beliefs, important relationships, and matters that are meaningful for you. Find out more about our Pastoral care service.

Patient facilities

Televisions

There are TVs with free-to-air stations in each patient room – these are free to use.

Group classes

You may need to attend group therapy exercise classes as part of the care you receive. Your care team will give you information about these classes.

Hand and foot massage

There are hand and foot massage volunteers who visit the hospital regularly. These massages are free for patients.

Phone calls

You can use your mobile phone while you are in hospital. Please be considerate of other patients when you are on a phone call.

Visitor accommodation

If you are an immediate family member or carer of an interstate patient admitted to the North Canberra Hospital, you may be eligible to stay at Rotary Cottage.

Rotary Cottage offers affordable, on-campus accommodation. It has ensuite rooms with a shared lounge and kitchen.

If you are looking for nearby accommodation, the North Canberra Hospital is about 10 minutes’ drive from the city centre and North Canberra, and five minutes’ drive from Belconnen.

Visitor lounge

Lounge areas for visitors are available at:

  • Zouki Café
  • Level 1, Xavier Building (foyer)
  • Madeleine’s Café.

Before taking a patient to these areas, please check with their care team.

Other services

Postal services

There is a post box at the entry to the Xavier Building. The Zouki Café sells postage stamps. The post box is cleared daily.

Pharmacy

The North Canberra Hospital pharmacy provides medication for discharged patients. It is not open to the public.

Newspapers and magazines

You can buy newspapers and magazines at Zouki Café and Madeleine’s Café.

Wi-Fi

We have free Wi-Fi for all patients and visitors.

To access the Wi-Fi on your smart phone, laptop or tablet choose the network named HEALTHfree.
