The following general information might be useful when preparing for your NDIS planning meeting.
- Identify your need for ongoing foot care related to your disability.
- Low level care is generally a minimum of an appointment every 12 weeks. You should allow approximately 6 hours of funded time to accommodate this level of care.
- High level care due to wounds or high foot risk may require much higher levels of care and can include an appointment every 4 to 6 weeks, or in some circumstances, weekly. You should allow a minimum of 14 hours for this level of care.
- Consider if you need assessment or review for new medical grade footwear or for new orthotics.
- If so, you will require clinical assessment, casting, fitting and review appointments with a clinician for these items. You should allow a minimum of 3 hours for footwear and 4 hours for orthotics.
- Orthotics or footwear prescribed by a podiatrist are generally identified as low cost assistive technology, ensure the costs for these items are built into your plan.
