A range of health care options to choose from

General Practitioners

GPs are the first point of contact for all health concerns - unless it’s an emergency. If you have multiple health needs, they can coordinate your care.

Walk-in Centres

You can visit a Walk-in Centre for free health care for non-life-threatening injuries and illnesses. The centres are open from 7.30am to 10pm, every day of the year.

Community pharmacists can do more than just give medication. They can provide advice and other services like blood glucose testing and vaccinations.

Canberra Health Services community care

Canberra has a range of free public health services to help meet your health care needs. They provide everything from specialised clinics and services to preventive care and screenings.

Emergency Departments

Call ‘000’ or go to the emergency department if you or someone you’re caring for has an immediate life-threatening condition.

Private allied health services

Allied health services, like physiotherapy, nutrition and psychology services, can help prevent long-term or acute health conditions.

Non-life-threatening injuries and illnesses

Walk-in Centres provide free health care for non-life threatening injuries and illnesses to anyone who is over one year of age. We are staffed by Advance Practice Nurses and Nurse Practitioners. If your health needs are more than we can provide, we will direct or support you to the right care.

Open every day of the year

The centres are open 7 days a week, including Christmas Day and New Year’s Day between 7.30am and 10pm. You don’t need to make an appointment, just come on in. You do not need a Medicare card and all services are free.

Find a Walk-in Centre near you

Our Walk-in Centres are located in Belconnen, Tuggeranong, Inner North (Dickson), Weston and Gungahlin. An estimate of wait times at any of the Walk-in Centres is available on our website.
