Sepsis is a serious illness that needs urgent medical attention. It happens when the body’s response to an infection damages its own tissues and organs.

Symptoms of sepsis include:

  • fever and chills
  • low body temperature
  • low or no urine output
  • fast heartbeat
  • nausea and vomiting
  • diarrhoea
  • fatigue or weakness
  • blotchy or discoloured skin.

If you think you or a loved one may have sepsis, speak to a team member immediately. If you’re still worried, follow the steps on this page.

For more information on sepsis, visit the Sepsis Australia website. Clinical Excellence Queensland also has plenty of information and resources on sepsis.
