The Walk in Centre’s (WiC) are a primary health service with Advanced Practice Nurses (APN) and Nurse Practitioners (NP) who provide episodic care for minor injury and illness to the ACT community and surrounds. Advanced Practice Nurses provide care to clients, using advanced clinical assessment skills supported by clinical treatment protocols, medication standing orders and clinical decision making.

Duties

Under limited direction of the Clinical Midwife Manager, you will:

Under limited direction of the Walk-in Centre Clinical Nurse Manager you will provide episodic primary health care for minor injury and illness to the ACT community.  Duties include:

  1. Deliver advanced, comprehensive nursing assessment,  planning and implementation of care in accordance with Walk-in Centre  protocols and in collaboration with other members of  the Walk-in Centre team. While providing relevant opportunistic health  promotion.
  2. Contribute to  clinical output using critical analysis and problem-solving skills. Maintain  learnings in the primary health role to actively educate and support clients,  enabling active participation in their own care.
  3. Accountable for  coordinating, managing and providing clinical care and appropriate internal  and external stakeholder referral for clients within the nursing model of care  of the WiC with an awareness of consumer safety.
  4. Participate in  clinical analysis and review including outcome-based decision making and  research related to Walk-in Centre activity. Contribute to the professional  development of self and others working in the Walk-in Centre.
  5. Support and  promote the CHS values of Reliable, Progressive, Respectful and Kind through a  working understanding of the integral role these values play in the holistic  operation of the Walk-in Centre
  6. Undertake other  duties appropriate to this level of classification which contribute to the  operation of the organisation.

To be successful in this position, it is expected that the successful candidate will have the following attributes:

  • Successful completion of the Objective Structured Clinical Exams (OSCE) is to be met within four weeks of commencement and are based on practical demonstration of understand the Walk in Centre Clinical Treatment Protocols
  • Strong organisational skills with a high degree of drive and ability to think critically think
  • Adaptability and flexibility to accommodate change and provide responsive services to meet service and patients’ needs
  • An ability to work respectfully in partnership with a range of stakeholders, while concurrently demonstrating leadership
  • Capacity to work a rotating roster with weekend, Public Holidays and evening work
  • Availability to work across all 5 Walk-in Centre sites. (Gungahlin, Dickson, Belconnen, Weston, Tuggeranong).

  • Post Graduate course work or study in the Primary Healthcare field.
  • Prior experience in Primary health assessment or treatment will be highly desirable.

Computer literacy skills are required which are relevant to this role as you will be responsible for completing required documentation and becoming a proficient user of the Digital Health Record and/or other Information Technology systems; once proficient, you will need to remain current with changes, updates, and contingencies.
