Women, Youth and Children Community Health Programs (WYCCHP) delivers a range of health care community-based services to women, children, young people and families. These services include support, education, and information; counselling, assessment, and screening; early identification and referral; and the delivery of public health programs. Services are delivered within a multi-disciplinary context if not by a multidisciplinary team. The Enhanced Health Services (EHS) within WYCCHP include the Early Family Support Service (EFSS), Enhanced Child Health Service (ECHS), Developmental Paediatric Medical Service (DPMS), and Women’s Health Service (WHS).
Training Team, Enhanced Child Health Service
The Training Team Coordinator provides leadership of a team of Health Professionals and Registered Nurses responsible for the development and delivery of training for CHS staff, stakeholders, and consumers. All CHS staff are required to undertake essential education regarding their roles and responsibilities in relation to child protection and family violence. This team develops, provides, and evaluates all mandatory child protection and Strengthening Health Responses to Family Violence (SHRFV) training for CHS. This includes information around roles and responsibilities according to legislation and policies.
In conjunction with the Child and Family Counselling Team Clinical Lead and MAIN Team Clinical Nurse Consultant, the Training Team Coordinator oversees the development and delivery of training packages to consumers, services, and stakeholders on a range of topics including parent education groups regarding child developmental and behavioural concerns, and education sessions and in-services to schools or other stakeholders regarding sexualised behaviours in children. These sessions are delivered by the team’s health professionals and registered nurses in collaboration with specialist clinicians from other teams within the Enhanced Health Services with subject matter expertise.
The Training Team Coordinator is responsible for the development, presentation and evaluation of mandatory education and training programs and strategies in the areas of child protection and family violence for CHS. Expert knowledge of the impact of violence, abuse and neglect on children is a critical part of this role.
Key Responsibilities
Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following.
Under limited direction of the Enhanced Child Health Service Operational Manager, you will perform the duties of the Training Team Coordinator. You will:
- Coordinate and manage the development, delivery and evaluation of the eLearning and face to face education and training programs for Canberra Health Services staff in the areas of child protection and the impact of family violence inclusive of mandatory reporting.
- In consultation and liaison with key stakeholders and EHS clinicians, design, develop and evaluate specific training modules in relation to child protection, family violence, child development and behaviour.
- Work as a member of an intra-agency team to coordinate the provision of expert advice on family violence matters and the ongoing development of Canberra Health Services child protection and family violence policies and awareness raising strategies in consultation with key areas of health.
- Provide professional supervision, leadership and mentoring to support the ongoing development of trainers to attain a high level of competency and actively participate in the delivery of professional activities and forums.
- Provide leadership in quality improvement activities, policy development, and in the collation, evaluation and analysis of data relating to family violence including providing regular reports on the effectiveness of the training programs and contributing to research to support evidence-based practice education in Canberra Health Services.
- Model an exemplary level of professional and ethical standards in clinical interventions and provide leadership to uphold the National Quality and Safety Health Care Standards.

Qualifications
Essential
- Relevant Registered Nursing qualifications.
- Be registered or be eligible for registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) or for allied health professions not regulated by National Law be eligible for accreditation with the Australian Association of Social Workers.
Desirable
- An understanding of how the National Safety and Quality Health Service (NSQHS) indicators align with this role.
- Fulfil the responsibilities of this role in alignment to the CHS Exceptional Care Framework and all other related frameworks.
- Certificate IV Training and Assessment or an equivalent certificate in group facilitation.
- Hold a current driver’s licence.

- A minimum of 5 years’ experience working professionally in nursing.

- Demonstrated ability to initiate Quality Improvement activities including the analysis, planning, implementation, and evaluation of training and education programs that incorporate adult learning principles and support evidence-based practice.
- Proven experience and ability in group facilitation, including an understanding of group dynamics, to promote a safe learning environment and respond to participant disclosures.
- Demonstrated knowledge of contemporary research, evidence-based practices and legislative and policy frameworks related to family violence, child protection and mandatory reporting, and demonstrated clinical expertise in the application of risk frameworks relating to family violence, child abuse, and neglect.
- Advanced level of communication skills demonstrated through the ability to establish and maintain high level effective working relationships with internal and external stakeholders and the ability to coordinate and manage a small team of staff.
- Demonstrates understanding of, and adherence to, safety and quality standards, work, health, and safety (WH&S) and the positive patient experience. Displays behaviour consistent with CHS’s values of reliable, progressive, respectful, and kind.
