Key Responsibilities

Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following.

• Work as a member of a multidisciplinary team in accordance with the BreastScreen Australia Program to achieve the BSA National Accreditation Standards (NAS) requirements. This includes direct clinical services to women, counselling and referral of women to promote best practice outcomes and data entry and management.
• Accurately assess the holistic needs of clients to ensure appropriate care and support needs are met.
• Provide timely and effective communication to clients and their families/carers to achieve best practice health outcomes.
• Advocate for women by supporting, advising and educating in accordance with BSA NAS to achieve optimal health outcomes.
• Actively participate in professional forums for the BreastScreen program, clinical nursing practice and quality improvement initiatives in alignment with the BSA and CHS Quality and Clinical Governance Framework.
• Maintain required clinical core competencies and skills, accessing appropriate education and staff development opportunities. Practices within professional scope of practice.
• Maintain and promote a culture of safe clinical practice and Speaking Up for Safety
• Undertake other duties appropriate to this level of classification which contribute to the operation of the organisation.

Qualifications

Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following.

Essential

• Tertiary Qualification in nursing or related qualification in women’s health or breast cancer
• Registered or eligible for registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA).

Desirable

• Have an understanding of how the National Safety and Quality Health Service (NSQHS) indicators align with this role.
• Completed a patient counselling course.

Experience

Specific responsibilities include but are not limited to the following.

Essential

• A minimum of 4 years experience working in nursing
• Experience or knowledge of the BreastScreen Australia Program and the National Accreditation Standards.
•  

Desirable

• Experience working professionally in breast cancer or women’s health
• the responsibilities of this role in alignment to the CHS Exceptional Care Framework, and all other related frameworks.

Prior to commencement

Appointment to this position is conditional on being granted and retaining appropriate clearances:

• Undergo a pre-employment National Police Check.
• Comply with Canberra Health Services Occupational Assessment, Screening and Vaccination policy.

CHS is leading the drive to digitally transform health service delivery in Australia through the implementation of a territory wide Digital Health Record. Computer literacy skills are required which are relevant to this role as you will be responsible for completing required documentation and becoming a proficient user of the Digital Health Record and/or other Information Technology systems; once proficient, you will need to remain current with changes, updates, and contingencies.

1. Knowledge of the current trends in breast screening and breast cancer and a sound understanding of the BreastScreen Australia program and National Accreditation Standards.
2. Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with diverse and vulnerable clients utilising well developed verbal, written and interpersonal skills.
3. Demonstrated planning and problem-solving capabilities to ensure appropriate education and support to clients, carers and families.
4. Commitment in maintaining professional development of self and proven ability to develop and implement quality improvement activities with a client safety focus.
5. Demonstrates understanding of, and adherence to, safety and quality standards, work, health and safety (WH&S) and the positive patient experience. Displays behaviour consistent with CHS’s values of reliable, progressive, respectful and kind.
