Position overview
Nursing and Midwifery Workforce Support Services plays a key role in developing a collaborative and strategic approach to nursing & midwifery and patient support services for CHS.
The area includes Nursing Support Services such as the Nursing and Midwifery Resource Office and eRostering Team.
The Nursing & Midwifery Resource Office (NRMO) manages the nursing relief pool and casual nursing workforce and facilitates and manages recruitment of nurses across CHS including the RN & EN Transition to Practice Programs. The Nurse Manager of the NMRO oversees the recruitment and personnel management of staff within the nursing relief and casual pools and education priorities in collaboration with the Clinical Nurse Educator and Clinical Development Nurses. The role acts as the principal point of contact for whole of Nursing & Midwifery Service workforce working closely with nurse managers across all divisions to assist with recruitment requirements. The NMRO provides the nursing resources on a daily basis to assist all divisions across CHS to manage roster shortfalls and unscheduled absences. The successful applicant will also manage and provide leadership to the NMRO team including an Administrative Support Officer, Staffing Allocation Officer, and Registered Nurse Level 2 Roster Support Officer.
Key Responsibilities
Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following.
- Provide leadership and support to the Nursing & Midwifery Resource Office within the Division of Nursing & Midwifery & Patient Support Services.
- Liaise with unit clinical leaders in planning and coordinating staffing resources by, ensuring rosters and allocation of staff within area of responsibility will provide a safe and high level of patient care, monitor and take responsibility for staffing levels and participate in staff recruitment, orientation and staff development programs
- Responsible for the management of staff issues, ensuring consistency with relevant legislation, policies, practice standards, processes and industrial framework for nurses within the Nursing and Midwifery Resource Office.
- In consultation with clinical unit leaders, make recommendations to meet the changing workload requirements in each clinical area.
- Ensure staff receive regular feedback and educational support to meet the required standard of service delivery focusing on unit goals, risk management and quality processes.
- Promote and progress change processes as identified within ACT Health, The Canberra Hospital, nursing strategic and business plans.
- Continually update on contemporary management and leadership developments including personal continuing professional development - including complying with and deliver against the required key performance indicators.
- Undertake other duties appropriate to this level of classification which contribute to the operation of the organisation.

Qualifications
Specific responsibilities include but are not limited to the following.
Essential:
- Tertiary Qualification or related qualification in nursing
- Registered or eligible for registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA).
Desirable:
- Post graduate qualifications in nursing, management or health related field.
- Have an understanding of how the National Safety and Quality Health Service (NSQHS) indicators align with this role.
Experience
- A minimum 5 years’ work experience as a Registered Nurse
- Experience or knowledge of the CHS Exceptional Care Framework, Clinical Governance Framework, and all other related frameworks.
Desirable:
- Prior experience in human resource management and rostering will be highly desirable.

- Proven recent comprehensive leadership and management of human, financial and material resource in consultation with area Clinical Nurse Consultants and/or Nurse Managers.
- Knowledge and experience in leading and managing an effective team, including appropriate rostering practices which foster a “best” work culture/ environment and comply with the Nursing and Midwifery Enterprise Agreement 2023 - 2026
- Demonstrated ability to work within a multi-disciplinary team and to both communicate effectively and foster a culture of open communication and feedback including a record of behaviour and attitudes consistent with professional standards and professional development of self and others.
