The Surgical Inpatient Wards of the Canberra Hospital are responsible for delivering services to inpatients in the following specialties: General Surgery, Gynae Oncology, Ophthalmology, Neurosurgery, Vascular, Urology, Cardio-thoracic, Orthopaedics, Plastics, Otolaryngology, Maxillofacial, Emergency General Surgery and Trauma Care.

Ward 5A is a 30-bed Orthopedic inpatient ward. It specialises in major trauma including hip fractures, upper and lower limb fractures, pelvic and musculoskeletal conditions where an allied health and team nursing model of care approach to discharge is required. Ward 5A also caters for some spinal surgery and patients with joint infections. Ward 5A attends complex wound care. Ward 5A has a great team of nurses who strive to provide positive outcomes for patients.

We are currently seeking several Registered Nurses (Level 1) to join our dynamic orthopedic team. In this role, you will provide high-quality nursing care to patients with a variety of orthopaedic conditions, working in a supportive and collaborative environment that values your growth and well-being.

Duties

Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following.

  1. Provide patient centred care within an ethical and professional framework.
  2. Practice in accordance with the relevant legislation.

  4. Advocate for individuals and or groups and their rights for nursing care within the organisational and management structure.
  5. Understand and practices within own scope of practice.
  6. Integrate nursing and health care knowledge, skills and attitudes to provide safe and effective nursing care.
  7. Integrate organisational policy and guidelines with professional standards.
  8. Undertake other duties appropriate to this level of classification which contribute to the operation of the organisation.

Qualifications

Essential

  • Tertiary Qualification or related qualification
  • Registered or eligible for registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA).
  • Have an understanding of how the National Safety and Quality Health Service (NSQHS) indicators align with this role.

Specific responsibilities include but are not limited to the following.

Prior to commencement

Appointment to this position is conditional on being granted and retaining appropriate clearances:

  • Undergo a pre-employment National Police Check.
  • Comply with Canberra Health Services Occupational Assessment, Screening and Vaccination policy.
