Position overview
Under limited direction of the Assistant Director of Nursing Nurse Managers should have a demonstrated ability to provide effective leadership, promote high quality health outcomes in a complex nursing service and manage financial, physical and human resources. Previous community nursing experience would be advantageous.
Key responsibilities
Specific responsibilities include but are not limited to the following.
- Provide leadership, direction, operational support and supervision for a regional nursing team. In conjunction with the Assistant Director of Nursing and other nursing team managers, provide a coordinated service to ensure high quality client outcomes across the ACT.
- Initiate and review complex clinical management regimes in highly demanding situations using critical analysis, clinical judgement and outcome-based decision making.
- Coordinate, review and manage allocated human, material and financial resources to facilitate a safe standard of care including roster development, recruitment and leave planning to ensure adequate skill mix, and appropriate and available resources.
- Coordinate performance management processes, orientation and training and provide support for learning and development requirements for staff and students.
- Monitor and review budget expenditure and performance indicators, report variances and support budget development for activities and business cases for the team.
- Identify and address clinical governance issues within the team to ensure a best practice standard of care and safety, including policy and systems review, and quality improvement activities.
- Participate actively in Community Care Program and RACS specific initiatives, provide leadership to the regional team in such participation and represent the regional nursing team at appropriate forums.
- Undertake other duties appropriate to this level of classification which contribute to the operation of the organisation.

Qualifications

Essential
- Tertiary Qualification or related qualification in Nursing
- Registered or eligible for registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA).
Desirable
- Have an understanding of how the National Safety and Quality Health Service (NSQHS) indicators align with this role.
Experience
Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following.
Essential
- Minimum of 5 years post graduate nursing experience.
Desirable
- Prior experience in a managerial role will be highly desirable.
- Hold a current driver's licence.
- Tertiary or post graduate qualifications and recent experience in a wide range of clinical hospital and/or community health applicable to the position.
- Fulfil the responsibilities of this role in alignment to the CHS Exceptional Care Framework, Clinical Governance Framework, Partnering With Consumers Framework and all other related frameworks

- Demonstrated ability in developing, implementing and reviewing systems to ensure effective, responsive clinical governance and quality outcomes, combined with demonstrated experience in quality improvement activities and active contribution to professional forums.
- Demonstrated ability to make effective decisions and to promote a positive team culture within a changing environment using high level interpersonal and communication skills.
- Demonstrates understanding of, and adherence to, safety and quality standards, Work Health and Safety and the positive patient experience. Displays behaviour consistent with CHS’s values of reliable, progressive, respectful, and kind.
