The Division of Women, Youth and Children (WYC) offers a range of primary, secondary, and tertiary services across the acute and community-based sectors.

The Centenary Hospital for Women and Children (CHWC) is a tertiary centre providing specialised maternity and neonatology services for the ACT and surrounding regional areas.

The CHWC offers antenatal, birthing, and postnatal services under various models of care aimed at providing woman and family centred care. Birthing options include midwifery led continuity models, midwifery care, maternity team care, working collaboratively with the multidisciplinary team as required.  The CHWC is the tertiary referral service for the ACT and Southern NSW region.  The maternity department at CHWC is dynamic with a strong culture of finding innovative modern solutions to the demands and challenges facing contemporary midwifery.

The Maternity services are supported by a tertiary neonatal service including Intensive Care (NICU), Special Care (SCN) and the regional retrieval service (ACT NETS).

Reporting to the Clinical Midwifery Manager Birthing, the Maternity Clinical Care Coordinator will provide will high level midwifery leadership, planning and operational leadership to the Midwifery teams to achieve high quality and safe patient care within WYC. The Maternity Clinical Care Coordinator will work collaboratively with the multidisciplinary team and consumers of maternity and gynaecology services.  The Maternity Clinical Care Coordinator will provide high level support in coordinating and managing patient flow and staffing within the Maternity Birthing Service to facilitate timely access to and comprehensive care for consumers. Midwives working in this role should be self-motivated and be able to work under minimal direct supervision. There is an expectation that you will coordinate and participate in the delivery of clinical supervision, as well as maintain accountability for your own practice standards, education activities delegated to others, and the guidance and development of Birthing Unit staff.

Duties

Under limited direction of the Clinical Midwife Manager, you will:

  1. Provide clinical governance leadership and coordination of staff in the planning, coordination and operational day to day management of Birthing areas and MAU in collaboration with the multidisciplinary team, ensuring woman centred care and safety is maximised by coordinating the operational demands of the units.
  2. Employ advanced problem-solving skills to coordinate the consumers care journey through CHWC in collaboration with the multidisciplinary team, maintaining the woman and her family at the centre of decision making and care delivery.
  3. Allocation of the daily unit midwifery resources ensuring patient centred care and safety is maximised by ensuring allocation of appropriately skilled staff and ensuring upskilling and education opportunities for staff.
  4. In collaboration with the CMM, provide leadership in the support of staff wellbeing, in the immediate response to challenging events to facilitate debriefing consultations as required.  This role may extend to include the facilitation of complex debriefing appointments as required by consumers.
  5. Monitoring the standards of clinical practice and professionalism of staff in conjunction with the CMM, implementing strategies to address identified clinical deficiencies and staff performance.
  6. Provide leadership in the development, implementation and evaluation of midwifery policies, guidelines, and standards to build an environment of excellence in woman-centred, safe, effective care.
  7. Responsible and accountable for an identified clinical governance portfolio, professional development group and mentoring of staff.
  8. Undertake other duties appropriate to this level of classification which contribute to the operation of the organisation.

  2. Demonstrated strong organisational and communication skills for managing the day-to-day Unit activities utilising effective and collaborative communication skills with the multidisciplinary team and key stakeholder engagement.
  3. Proven record of behaviour and attitude consistent with professional standards and professional development of self and others.
  4. Proven ability to support clinical service improvements through quality improvement, risk management and research activities.
  5. Demonstrates understanding of, and adherence to, safety and quality standards, Work Health and Safety and the positive patient experience. Displays behaviour consistent with CHS’s values of reliable, progressive, respectful, and kind.
