Position Overview
Physiotherapy within Allied Health, North Canberra Hospital, provides services to a range of clients in acute inpatients and specialised outpatient settings. Our Allied Health Assistants work closely with patients, carers, referrers, other health professionals and multidisciplinary teams to achieve safe, high quality patient care.
Allied Health Assistants provide a key role in providing assistance to physiotherapy staff in the provision of patient care and related administrative tasks. This position works in collaboration with the physiotherapy and multidisciplinary team to deliver high quality patient-centred services, supporting patient flow and maximising patient outcomes.
You will play a key role in delivering high quality patient centred care and associated functions to support service delivery in clinical areas. You may be required to participate in weekend rosters.
Duties
Under direction of Physiotherapy staff you will be required to:
- Implement and supervise treatment programs with patients and groups under indirect or remote supervision.
- Communicate effectively with patients and team, ensuring high-quality care.
- Provide safe and effective assistance to patients, undertaking tasks that require problem solving, and identify circumstances that require additional input from the Allied Health Professional.
- Work flexibly and within the scope of an Allied Health Assistant.
- Maintain high quality health care records, including accurate and timely completion of documentation.
- Assist the team with orientation, supervision, and training of AHA students, AHA 1s and work experience students.
- Contribute to a range of indirect clinical activities including but not limited to:
- Development of resources for patient, client, and consumer use.
- Ensure equipment is cleaned and maintained according to maintenance schedule.
- Monitor and maintain stores and equipment inventories.
- Assist with quality improvement activities and service development.
- Assist with departmental administrative tasks and procedures.
- Undertake other duties appropriate to the level of classification which contribute to the operation of the organisation.

Position Requirements / Qualifications
Mandatory
- Certificate IV in Allied Health Assistance or equivalent qualification.
- A current Working with vulnerable people (WWVP) registration.
- The successful applicant will need to be available for weekend work and after-hours work.
- CHS is leading the drive to digitally transform health service delivery in Australia through the implementation of a territory wide Digital Health Record. Computer literacy skills are required which are relevant to this role as you will be responsible for completing required documentation and becoming a proficient user of the Digital Health Record and/or other Information Technology systems; once proficient, you will need to remain current with changes, updates and contingencies.

- Have an understanding of how the National Safety and Quality Health Service (NSQHS) indicators align with this role.
- Fulfil the responsibilities of this role in alignment to the CHS Exceptional Care Framework and all other related frameworks.

- Experience in assisting with implementing and performing individual and group treatment programs under the supervision of an Allied Health Professional in the acute care setting.
- Effective verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to work as a member of the multidisciplinary team.
- Demonstrated ability to provide administrative support, including the ability to maintain and monitor therapy equipment and stores.
- Demonstrated problem solving skills, time management skills and a commitment to quality improvement activities.
- Demonstrates understanding of, and adherence to, safety and quality standards, work, health and safety (WH&S) and the positive patient experience. Displays behaviour consistent with CHS’s values of reliable, progressive, respectful and kind.
