Position Overview

The North Canberra Hospital (NCH) Dietetics and Nutrition service is a contemporary evidence based service, providing high quality inpatient care.  The service provides assessment and intervention relating to nutritional support for patients across a range of ages. Patients vary in their medical conditions and may include people with general and complex medical and surgical conditions, stroke, critical illness, mental health conditions, orthopaedic conditions, palliative care and frail aged. Under supervision of the Director Dietetics and Nutrition, you will provide clinical dietetics services at the NCH within a broader multidisciplinary team, and contribute to service improvement and quality improvement activities of the department.

Duties

Under direction of the Director Dietetics and Nutrition, you will:

  1. Provide appropriate clinical assessment and interventions using established principles, techniques and methods with support.
  2. Consult and liaise with relevant individuals and other service providers to facilitate effective service provision and improve clinical outcomes for patients.
  3. Complete clinical and administrative data collection and evaluation to standard.
  4. Participate in the development, analysis, evaluation and planning of Nutrition team and program related services throughout NCH, as required.
  5. Participate in implementation and co-ordination of clinical governance activities, quality improvement projects, research programs and health promotion in areas relevant to the service.
  6. Participate in supervision, continuing professional development and performance appraisal and development.
  7. Provide professional supervision, teaching and training to other staff and students, as directed.
  8. Undertake other duties as directed, appropriate to a HP2 and within the approved scope of clinical practice ensuring the delivery of person centred, safe and high quality patient care.

Position Requirements / Qualifications

Mandatory

  • Relevant undergraduate or postgraduate qualification in Nutrition and Dietetics and a minimum of 1 year experience working professionally in Nutrition and Dietetics.
  • Eligible for membership of Dietitians Australia (DA), and eligible to hold the Accredited Practising Dietitian (APD) credential.
  • Hold a current driver’s licence.

Desirable

  • Have an understanding of how the National Safety and Quality Health Service (NSQHS) indicators align with this role.
  • Fulfil the responsibilities of this role in alignment to the CHS Exceptional Care Framework and all other related frameworks.
  • CHS is leading the drive to digitally transform health service delivery in Australia through the implementation of a territory wide Digital Health Record. Computer literacy skills are required which are relevant to this role as you will be responsible for completing required documentation and becoming a proficient user of the Digital Health Record and/or other Information Technology systems; once proficient, you will need to remain current with changes, updates and contingencies.

Please note prior to commencement successful candidates will be required to:

  • Undergo a pre-employment National Police Check.
  • Comply with Canberra Health Services Occupational Assessment, Screening and Vaccination policy.
  • Prior to commencing this role, a current registration issued under the Working with Vulnerable People (Background Checking) Act 2011 is required.
  • Comply with CHS Credentialing and scope of clinical practice requirements for allied health professionals.

  2. Demonstrated high level written, oral and interpersonal communication skills including proven ability to communicate effectively with clients and work as an effective team member.
  3. Demonstrated ability to provide professional education and training for staff and clinical supervision for students.
  4. Demonstrated commitment to and involvement in evidence-based practice and quality improvement activities.
  5. Demonstrate a commitment to work, health and safety (WH&S) and the positive patient experience and displays behaviour consistent with CHS’s values of Respectful, Reliable, Progressive and Kind.
