Applications are sought for a February 2026 commencement for a period of 12 months with possible extension. To be eligible for this position, you must be PGY4+ by February 2026.
The CHS Division of Medicine provides a range of medical specialties and allied health services. A strong emphasis is placed across all sections on accessible and timely care, delivered to a high standard of safety and quality. This is underpinned by the Division’s commitment to research and training. The Division works in partnership with professional colleagues, consumers, and a range of government and non-government service providers to ensure the best possible outcomes for patients.
The Renal Network offers a range of services for patients with various stages of renal impairment across ACT and Southern NSW. These include inpatient and outpatient services such as acute haemodialysis, satellite and home dialysis, chronic kidney disease program, Renal Supportive Care program, renal transplantation, dialysis access, glomerular disease and general nephrology services. This team has a multidisciplinary approach with an emphasis on research and evidence-based practice and is committed to partnering with patients to provide excellent care. This position is based at Canberra Health Services and reports to the Director of the Renal Service.
Key responsibilities
Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Provide competent and efficient clinical management of patients requiring all aspects of renal care. While conducting clinical duties, this will include assessment and management of acute renal presentations to the Emergency Department, in-patient care, diagnosis and management of patients in renal outpatient clinics and satellite dialysis areas, ward consults and clinical handover.
- Participate in the supervision, training and professional development of junior medical staff.
- Assist in the progression of training in renal including participation in the RACP PREP Advanced Training program, timely completion of assessments and involvement in research.
- Contribute to clinical audit and participate in changes that improve quality and safety of patient care.
- Comply with the policies and requirements of the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency and the policies of Canberra Health Services.
- Undertake other duties appropriate to this level of classification which contribute to the operation of the organisation.

Qualifications
Essential
- MBBS or equivalent
- Registered or eligible for registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (Ahpra).
- Success in FRACP part 1 (Written and Clinical) Examinations.
- Current Basic Life Support skills and Advanced Life Support skills.
- Demonstrate commitment to training and continuing professional development including participation in relevant teaching programs, activities, and feedback opportunities, involvement in research, and teaching of junior medical staff and/or medical students.
- Must have a minimum of three years clinical experience as a Medical Practitioner
Desirable
- Clinical experience in general medicine and/or medical subspecialty as an advanced trainee
- Have an understanding of how the National Safety and Quality Health Service (NSQHS) indicators align with this role.
- Fulfil the responsibilities of this role in alignment to the CHS Exceptional Care Framework, Clinical Governance Framework, Partnering for Exceptional Care Framework and all other related frameworks.

CHS is leading the drive to digitally transform health service delivery in Australia through the implementation of a territory wide Digital Health Record. Computer literacy skills are required which are relevant to this role as you will be responsible for completing required documentation and becoming a proficient user of the Digital Health Record and/or other Information Technology systems; once proficient, you will need to remain current with changes, updates, and contingencies.
