Position overview
The Patient Accounts team at Canberra Health Services is led by the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) who reports to the Chief Executive Officer. The Division is responsible for developing and maintaining budgets, financial management, and providing strong operational finance and performance reporting analysis across the health service.
This position will provide high-level support to the Patient Accounts, Revenue Data team and be required to have a high level of skills in time management, data integrity, customer focused communication and the ability to work independently and as part of a team to ensure data accuracy for services provided through the Canberra Health Services Directorate.
The Billing Support Officer will be responsible for review of, and basic reporting on data accuracy and completeness related to revenue capture for Canberra Health Service and providing customer service and advice to front line staff related to revenue capture activities.
Key Responsibilities
Under limited direction of the Revenue Data Team Leader, you will perform basic reporting on data accuracy and completeness related to revenue capture for Canberra Hospital and Health Service You will need:
- Provide high level support to the Business Management & Efficiency Revenue team with routine administrative duties and other duties as required.
- Review/monitor patient services, to maintain billing accuracy.
- Maintain patient services, with understanding/knowledge of Medicare Benefits Schedule.
- Assist divisions in applying standard billing practices, including training front line staff where required.
- Process and raise invoices in accordance with CHS financial guidelines.
- Undertake other duties appropriate to this level of classification which contribute to the operation of the organisation.
- Coordinate and communicate with the wider Patient Accounts team to ensure data accuracy for accurate billing practices.

- Experience with DHR (Digital Health Record – EPIC).
- Advanced computer and IT skills, with the ability to navigate various systems and software effectively.
- High level experience using Microsoft Office Suite (e.g., Word, Excel, Outlook).
- Ability to work independently by following process manuals and established guidelines.
Desirable
- Experience in an administrative role in a healthcare or public service environment.
- Knowledge/understanding of the Medicare Benefits Schedule and National Health reform Agreement.
- Have an understanding of how the National Safety and Quality Health Service (NSQHS) indicators align with this role.
- Fulfil the responsibilities of this role in alignment to the CHS Exceptional Care Framework and all other related frameworks.

What you Require (Key Selection Criteria)

- Understanding of or willingness to learn the principles of the Commonwealth Medical Benefits Schedule (CMBS) and how it applies in a public health facility.
- Proven well-developed written and verbal communication skills with demonstrated ability to provide a wide range of administrative support functions, including ability to prioritise, show initiative and meet deadlines.
- Demonstrated experience in managing information technology systems and a high level of computer and keyboard skills across a variety of software programs including information management systems and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Sound organisational and time management skills, including the ability to organise workloads and set priorities, with ability to do so independently when required.
- Demonstrated understanding of, and adherence to, safety and quality standards, work, health, and safety (WH&S) and the positive patient experience. Displays behaviour consistent with CHS’s values of reliable, progressive, respectful, and kind.
