Eating healthy food is an important part of your treatment and care. Good nutrition helps your body heal. It can help you recover faster, prevent loss of muscle and lower the chance of infection.

Our dietitians and chefs create meals that are balanced and nourishing to support your recovery. We also provide high energy supplements if you need them.

We cater for a wide range of diets including allergies and intolerances and religious or personal preferences.

Please tell us if you:

  • have any special dietary needs
  • need help opening packets, cutting your food or feeding yourself
  • do not receive a meal.

Meals

We serve three meals a day, as well as three snacks. We have water for you all the time and we have tea and coffee available on your ward.

We will give you a menu to fill out your meal choices. If you prefer, you can also order your meals by speaking with a Menu Monitor who can write down your choices.

Meals are served in our dining rooms. If you are staying in Adult Mental Health Rehabilitation Unit there are opportunities for you to prepare your own meals with our support.

  • Breakfast between 7:30am and 9am
  • Morning tea 10am to 10:30am
  • Lunch between 11:30am and 1pm
  • Afternoon tea 2:30pm to 3:30pm
  • Dinner between 5pm and 6:30pm
  • Supper 7pm to 8pm

Allergies

Any food allergies you may have will be recorded in our system by the medical staff. Meals containing these allergens will not be available to you.

Food from home

We do not encourage your family or friends to bring in food for you. However, if they insist, there are Guidelines for bringing food to hospital (PDF, 291.28 KB) they need to follow to make sure the food is safe and suitable.
