If your doctor has decided that you need to see a specialist doctor and you are Medicare eligible, you will be referred for an appointment with a surgeon who specialises in the type of care you need.

Your surgical specialist will plan and assess if you need surgery and how urgently you need the surgery. They will place you on the ACT elective surgery waiting list in one of three categories:
Elective surgery
Elective surgery is planned surgery that can be booked in advance as a result of a specialist clinical assessment.
- Category 1: Admission recommended within 30 days
- Category 2: Admission recommended within 90 days
- Category 3: Admission recommended within 365 days.
Read our information about what to expect and what you need to do when you have been placed on a waiting list for elective surgery.
We publish Elective Surgery waitlist data for operational management purposes. Data is updated every two weeks.
