Your ward

We have two cancer wards for inpatients. These are known as wards 14A and 14B.

The wards are part of Canberra Hospital and are connected to the Canberra Region Cancer Centre by an enclosed bridge.

A patient is cared for by a nurse at the bedside while his carer reads by a window

Nurse’s stations

Each ward has a nurse’s station. If you are visiting someone on the ward our staff at the nurse’s station can help direct you to the right room.

Family friendly space

The wards share a patient/family dining area in ward 14B where you can spend time with loved ones away from your room. The rooms also have day beds to ensure your family and friends are comfortable when they visit.

Keeping airborne bacteria away

Ward 14A is positively pressured. This means air flows out of the ward, not in, which keeps away airborne bacteria. This reduces the risk of infection to immune-suppressed patients. It also means you will be able to walk freely around the ward instead of being isolated in your room.

Beverage bays

Each ward has a tea and coffee/beverage bay. Patients and visitors are welcome to use the bays to make a cup of tea or coffee. For safety we ask that hot drinks are not taken into patient rooms. More on this in our food and mealtimes information.
