Coming to the Canberra Region Cancer Centre for outpatient appointments

If you come to the Canberra Region Cancer Centre for day treatment, such as chemotherapy or radiation therapy, there are some things you might like to consider to prepare for your visit.

Bring a support person

Whether you are coming for treatment or an appointment, you may want to consider bringing a support person. A close friend or family member can help you make medical decisions or provide comfort and company while you undergo treatment.

Wear comfy and accessible clothing

If you are coming for treatment or need to have a blood test, consider clothing that will allow access to your arm, chemotherapy port or pic line. Some people find dressing in layers is useful for this.

Plan how you are going to get home

You may feel unwell or overwhelmed after your visit. It’s a good idea to plan how you are going to get home. Many people arrange for a friend or family member to drive them home.

Coming to Canberra Hospital as an inpatient

If you are admitted to Canberra Hospital we have information about how to prepare and what to bring when staying at Canberra Hospital.
