Our Mental Health Neuropsychology team is a specialised mental health service. We provide comprehensive neuropsychology assessments and interventions to people currently registered with mental health teams within Canberra Health Services.

We offer comprehensive neuropsychological assessments and neuropsychological interventions.
A neuropsychological assessment looks at a range of thinking abilities such as:
- attention and concentration
- memory
- language
- planning and organisation
- reasoning and problem solving
- academic skills.
A neuropsychological assessment can be useful for:
- helping with diagnosis and treatment planning
- understanding your thinking skills, including areas of strength and challenge
- providing you with strategies to help support your thinking skills day to day
- helping to guide planning for important areas of life, like independent living or returning to work or study.
A neuropsychological intervention is a therapy aimed at improving your thinking skills in day-to-day life. This can be useful for:
- helping with daily tasks
- helping with work or study.
Who we care for
Our services are available for individuals who are actively linked to a mental health team within Canberra Health Services.
How to access this service
You will need a referral from your mental health treating team to access this service.
What to expect
Once we have accepted the referral, you will be placed on the waiting list. You will receive a wait list letter and an information sheet about our service. Once appointments become available, we will contact you to arrange appointments. You will receive a letter to confirm your appointment times and relevant forms to fill in and bring with you on your initial interview.
What to bring to your appointment
- Previous x-ray films, scans, ultrasounds or any other test results or reports

Information for referrers
Please check whether the person meets the MHS Neuropsychology team Eligibility Criteria. If it is unclear whether the person meets Eligibility Criteria, clinical staff can contact MHS Neuropsychology on (02) 5124 1269 to clarify.
Please complete the MHS Neuropsychology Referral Form in the MHJHADS electronic clinical record (ECR) and send an internal message via the ECR to MHS Neuropsychology, alerting the service of the referral’s.
