The Medical Day Treatment Unit at the Canberra Region Cancer Centre specialises in providing infusions for patients who are receiving medical oncology treatment or are immunocompromised.
About this service
Our Medical Day Treatment Unit provides:
- Immunoglobulins
- Biologics
- Iron Infusions
- Apheresis
- Chemotherapy
- Hormonal subcutaneous injections.
Your specialist will explain your treatment and let you know how often you’ll have the infusion. It may range from one off treatments to fortnightly, monthly or yearly treatments.
We also operate the Zita Mary Clinic at North Canberra Hospital.
Who we care for
Our services are bulk-billed if you have a Medicare Card or an Asylum Seeker Card.
Current and former defence members and DVA card holders can also access our service.
How to access this service
Your specialist will send a referral us on your behalf.
Our admin/nursing team will call you with details of your appointment once an opening becomes available. Please note: this may take a few weeks and often longer for Immunology treatments.

What to expect
There is a high demand for our service, and we will ensure all referrals are dealt with according to urgency. This is determined by your specialist.
You will receive a phone call or letter to confirm your appointment time, location and what you need to bring.
What to bring to your appointment
- Medicare card/DVA card/Defence Personnel Number (if applicable)
- Any letters or correspondence from your GP
- Medicines you need to take while you are here
- List of medicines you are currently taking (or the boxes), including medicines you have bought without a prescription, such as herbal supplements and vitamins
- Previous x-ray films, scans, ultrasounds or any other test results or reports

The Medical Day Unit is located in Building 19, Level 4 in the Canberra Region Cancer Centre.
If you have an appointment for an infusion, please go to Level 4 and check in at the reception desk.
