Our team of dietitians and nutrition allied health assistants provide specialised nutrition services to adults living in the community.
About this service
Our service provides advice on the following:
- Tube feeding at home: support with tube feeding plans, trouble shooting and equipment needs.
- Kidney disease: our kidney dietitians provide advice on kidney stones, chronic kidney disease and healthy eating on haemodialysis. We help dialysis patients to take the guess work out of eating. See information about Dining on Dialysis.
- Nutrition support: help with recovering from malnutrition, poor food and drink intake, reduced appetite, losing weight without trying and wound healing. This includes advice on oral nutrition supplements and support for carers around food preparation. This support is inclusive of people with diagnosed Avoidant/Restrictive Food Intake Disorder. People with other diagnosed eating disorders will need to access the ACT Eating Disorder Clinical Hub Services.
- Gut health: advice on improving gut health in conditions including irritable bowel syndrome, constipation, diarrhoea, diverticulitis or post-surgery. When appropriate we support people to trial different diets including: increased plant based diets, elimination diets (e.g. low FODMAP™).
- Chronic health conditions: expert guidance on nutrition and having a positive relationship with food for people living with chronic health issues. This includes advice on arthritis, chronic pain, mental health, Parkinson’s disease and auto-immune conditions.
- Healthy eating advice: information on all aspects of nutrition including advice on managing risk factors for diseases (e.g. high blood pressure, pre-diabetes, high cholesterol), nutrient deficiencies (e.g. iron deficiency) or food intolerances (e.g. lactose intolerance).
If we do not offer the nutrition service you require, we can suggest another service (e.g. Diabetes Service, ACT Eating Disorder Clinical Hub, Department of Bariatric Medicine) that may meet your needs.
Who we care for
Our service is available to ACT residents over the age of 25.
However, we see ACT residents from 18 years of age if they require support for tube feeding or with advanced kidney disease.
Our service is a registered provider for the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS). We can support you to develop a nutrition plan to meet your NDIS goals. Please note funding requirements may apply for NDIS participants.
We have more information about using your NDIS plan to access this service.
My Aged Care Level 3 or Level 4 Home Care Package recipients are not eligible for this service. Home Care Package providers access private dietitian services.
