Position overview

CAMHS provides assessment and treatment for young people up to the age of 18 years who are experiencing moderate to severe mental health issues. CAMHS also provides high quality tertiary mental health care for young people aged 14-25 experiencing first onset psychosis.

This position works in Specialist Youth Mental Health Outreach (SYMHO) as a senior clinician providing direct assessment and treatment to young people experiencing early psychosis. The position is part of a multi-disciplinary team working with a range of health professional including allied health and medical staff. The position holder will hold a caseload and work in an assertive manner to support early intervention.

Key Responsibilities

Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following.

  • Provide high quality mental health assessment and early intervention for young people on your caseload and the team in line with evidence-based practice.
  • Communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders, carers and families at a high-level level to ensure shared decision making.
  • Take a lead role in crisis management.
  • Provide clinical leadership to others in the team including junior staff and students, especially in regard to nursing specific tasks e.g. medication administration and management of treatment room in line with work, health and safety standards and CHS policies and procedures.
  • Actively participate and lead service development in all areas of Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service.
  • Undertakes and provides clinical supervision and professional learning.
  • Understanding and awareness of benefits and risks associated with outreach to community settings to provide treatment.
  • Ensure service targets and goals are met in a timely manner.
  • Work in other areas of CAMHS as required.
  • Undertake other duties appropriate to this level of classification which contribute to the operation of the organisation.

Qualifications

Specific responsibilities include but are not limited to the following.

Mandatory:

  • Tertiary Qualifications or related qualifications in nursing
  • Be registered or be eligible for registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA).
  • Hold a current driver’s licence.

Computer literacy skills are required which are relevant to this role as you will be responsible for completing required documentation and becoming a proficient user of the Digital Health Record and/or other Information Technology systems; once proficient, you will need to remain current with changes, updates, and contingencies.

  1. Proven experience in conducting mental health, risk and biopsychosocial assessments, and utilising evidence-based interventions, crisis management and clinical oversight for young people with complex mental health issues.
  2. Proven experience in, and commitment to, working collaboratively with young people, their families/carers, the multidisciplinary care team and other health and community service providers to develop and implement cohesive, recovery-oriented responses to meet their needs.
  3. Demonstrated ability to provide clinical and operational leadership in daily work.
  4. Demonstrated ability to develop, implement and evaluate innovative mental health care initiatives and an ability to participate in clinical research, quality improvement activities, training, teaching, and clinical supervision.
  5. Demonstrates understanding of, and adherence to, safety and quality standards, Work Health and Safety and the positive patient experience. Displays behaviour consistent with CHS’s values of reliable, progressive, respectful, and kind.
