Position Overview

With teams located within North Canberra Hospital (Bruce) and The Canberra Hospital (Garran), People and Culture are responsible for providing strategic leadership and operational implementation of Human Resource strategies relating to a diverse range of Human Resources and Industrial Relations functions across Canberra Health Services.

Duties

Under limited direction of the Assistant Director, you will perform effective and accurate payroll services to our customers, support colleagues, and be a participative and positive team member in a dynamic work environment. This may include but is not limited to:

  1. Support the leadership team in managing the team to deliver accurate and timely payroll services in accordance with the relevant Enterprise Agreements and legislation.
  2. Work with the leadership team to identify individual and team training requirements and implement, develop, and deliver training as required.
  3. Interpret and provide accurate and considered advice relating to Enterprise Agreements, legislation, and policies for current payroll activities and practices.
  4. Respond effectively to customer enquiries, ensuring all verbal and written communication with customers is professional, helpful, empathetic, well considered, and accurate.
  5. Undertake relevant casework, and prepare well researched correspondence, reports and submissions relating to payroll activities.
  6. Work cooperatively with team members across Payroll Services, sharing knowledge and expertise to complete daily workloads, improve business outcomes and support positive change in the work environment.
  7. Undertake other duties appropriate to this level of classification which contribute to the operation of the organisation.

What you Require (Key Selection Criteria)

These are the key selection criteria for how you will be assessed in conjunction with your resumé and experience.

  1. Knowledge and application of relevant Enterprise Agreements, legislation, Public Service Management Act and Standards, and policies and procedures relating to employment and conditions.
  2. Experience in the use of an automated Human Resource Information Management System.
  3. Analytical skills, particularly accuracy when dealing with numerical data and complex problems.
  4. The ability to apply adaptive payroll training to new and current staff, for continual business improvements and to maintain customer service standards.
  5. Sound organisational skills, including the ability to effectively manage multiple tasks, determine priorities, and effectively meet strict deadlines in high pressure situations.
  6. Ability to listen and communicate clearly and empathetically (both in writing and verbally) with staff at all levels and focus on customer needs and satisfactory outcomes.
  7. Ability to work cooperatively and positively within a team environment and demonstrate helpful, collaborative assistance to support others across Payroll Services including the ability to share knowledge in a clear manner, demonstrating patience when training less experienced staff.
