Position overview
The Tribunal Liaison Assistant reports to the Tribunal Liaison Officer and is expected to provide administrative support to clinical staff and their teams. The service aims to provide collaborative care involving the consumer, their carers and other key services. This also includes the provision of high-quality customer service and attention to detail.
Key Responsibilities
Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following.
Under limited direction of the Tribunal Liaison Officer, you will liaise regularly with the ACT Civil & Administrative Tribunal to ensure compliance with the Mental Health Act 2015. You will:
- Provide administrative support to the Tribunal Liaison Officer, including:
- checking bed lists for new admissions for consumers on PTO’s.
- preparation, checking and submission of papers to ACAT.
- data entry regarding hearings and maintaining statistical data.
- preparation and set up for hearings.
- the serving of legal documents including but not limited to ED 11 and Psychiatric Treatment Order Applications and consumer correspondence.
- provision of information to other areas within Mental Health as required.
- follow up on action items prior to and post tribunal hearings.
- Attendance at ACAT tribunal hearings as required.
- Assist the Tribunal Liaison Officer with other duties as necessary.
- Undertake other duties appropriate to this level of classification which contribute to the operation of the organisation.

- Experience within a health administration area.
- Knowledge and experience in the use of relevant medical terminology.
- An understanding in dealing with persons affected with Mental Illness.
- Have an understanding of how the National Safety and Quality Health Service (NSQHS) indicators align with this role.
- Experience or knowledge of the CHS Exceptional Care Framework and all other related frameworks.
Prior to commencement
Appointment to this position is conditional on being granted and retaining appropriate clearances:
- Pre-employment National Police Check.
- Current registration issued under the Working with Vulnerable People (Background Checking) Act 2011 is required.

Proven capacity to independently assess risk, anticipate issues, and meet strict statutory and tribunal timeframes in a fast-paced environment while working collaboratively with clinical and legal stakeholders.
- Demonstrated experience using clinical and corporate information systems, including Microsoft Office Suite, Digital Health Record (DHR), Clinical Portal, and related databases. Proven ability to maintain high levels of data accuracy, confidentiality, and record integrity within a clinical-legal framework.
- Demonstrated understanding of and adherence to Work Health and Safety, clinical governance, and quality standards within a mental health setting. Consistently displays behaviours aligned with organisational values through reliable practice, respect for consumer dignity, professional integrity, and a calm, compassionate approach in high-pressure situations.
