Position overview
This radiographer position is a clinical role and is responsible for the provision of general and advanced radiography services during business hours and for providing leadership to the radiography team afterhours and on weekends. In addition to the provision of excellent patient care, the position contributes to scheduling and throughput of patients, as well as immediate interactions with students and staff across the multidisciplinary team.
Key Responsibilities
Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following.
- The Breast Unit Team Leader role is responsible for providing leadership and direction in the Breast Unit, whilst working under the limited direction and supervision of the Deputy Chief Radiographer.
- The role will perform complex and critical work at a high level of expertise and is responsible for the effective utilization of available resources to enable service provision within the identified accountability frameworks.
- This role is required to support the Breast Unit in provision of a two day a week service with the aim of development and expansion of the Unit.
- Liaise with multidisciplinary team members to facilitate timely care for patients, working with team leaders and managers to ensure cost effective service delivery.
- Contribute to the evaluation and analysis of policies and procedures applicable to professional practice.
- Participate in ongoing professional education, and assist with the supervision, training, and mentoring of junior staff and students.
- Initiate and coordinate quality improvement activities and quality assurance programs, exercising independent professional judgement in problem solving and service delivery.
- Report equipment failures, maintain records of service history, and maintain appropriate records of procedures.
- Undertake other duties appropriate to this level of classification which contribute to the operation of the organisation.
Qualifications
Essential
- Relevant Tertiary qualifications in Medical Radiation Science (Radiography) or equivalent.
- Registered or eligible for registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA).
- Current ACT Radiation licence or equivalent.

Essential
- Minimum of three years’ post-graduate experience working in a multi-disciplinary medical imaging department, preferably within a trauma and teaching hospital is preferred.
- Be competent in a minimum of two advanced modality skills ie Angio, MRI, CT, or Mammography.
- Must have a minimum 3yrs experience in Mammography.
Desirable
- A minimum of five years’ experience working in a Breast Unit.
- Have an understanding of how the National Safety and Quality Health Service (NSQHS) indicators align with this role.
- Experience or knowledge of the CHS Exceptional Care Framework and all other related frameworks.

Appointment to this position is conditional on being granted and retaining appropriate clearances:
- Pre-employment National Police Check.
- Comply with Canberra Health Services Occupational Assessment, Screening and Vaccination policy.
- Comply with Canberra Health Services credentialing and scope of clinical practice requirements for the Allied Health professional.

- The successful applicant will need to be available to undertake shift work participating in a 24/7, 10hr roster including after-hours and weekend, as well as participation in on-call rosters.

- Proven working knowledge and experience performing radiographic procedures across multiple modalities, with capacity to translate this experience to performance in a major trauma and teaching hospital.
- Proven high level of supervision and management within a multi-disciplinary team.
- Ability to maintain high standards of accuracy, safety and day-to-day problem solving in all aspects of Mammography within a busy working environment.
- High level liaison, consultation and communication skills with respect to members of staff, patients and users of the Medical Imaging Breast Unit.
- Demonstrates understanding of, and adherence to, safety and quality standards, Work Health and Safety and the positive patient experience. Displays behaviour consistent with CHS’s values of reliable, progressive, respectful, and kind.
