They will help you to connect with your community and provide you with both emotional and practical support depending on your needs. Please speak to our bedside nurses or anyone in our team if you would like to speak to a social worker or Aboriginal liaison worker.

Miracle babies peer support program at Centenary Hospital

Miracle Babies Foundation is a non-profit organisation that supports premature and sick newborns, their family and the hospitals that care for them. We have a trained miracle babies support worker with lived experience working in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) and Special Care Nursery (SCN) to help families.

Their services also include support after leaving hospital such as:

NurtureLine: National 24-hour family helpline. Call 1300 622 243.

NurtureGroup: Out of hospital play and support. Call 1300 773 664 or (02) 9724 8999 to register for the first time.

Stella Bella Foundation

Stella Bella Foundation offers a range of supports directly to families and via our hospital social work teams. This includes frozen meals for families in NICU and SCN at Centenary Hospital.

Life’s Little Treasures Foundation

Life’s Little Treasures Foundation is a charitable organisation set up by the parents of premature babies. They provide extensive support for families and their babies by offering information, a newsletter, access to community support and playgroups, family social events, financial and material support through their Family Assistance Programs.

Newborn Intensive Care Foundation

The Newborn Intensive Care Foundation was established in 1995. The foundation supports a wide range of activities, which includes supplying medical equipment not available through normal government channels. In addition, the foundation supports research and education activities aimed at improving clinical care and the long-term outcomes of babies admitted to a NICU.

Ronald McDonald Family Room at Centenary Hospital

Ronald McDonald Family Room provides a friendly space for families who have a child undergoing treatment within the Centenary Hospital. Where able, Ronald McDonald also provides families who live at least 100km from Canberra (but need to be at the hospital to support their child) with free accommodation.
