We have some support services to help you while you are staying at the Centenary Hospital for Women and Children or North Canberra Hospital.
Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Liaison Service
The Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Liaison Service at Centenary Hospital for Women and Children, and Aboriginal Liaison at North Canberra Hospital gives support to Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander peoples and their families.
The services offer emotional, social and cultural support as well as information and referrals to other services.
We have more information about our Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Liaison Service (at Centenary), and Aboriginal Liaison at North Canberra Hospital, including contact details.
Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Rooms at Canberra Hospital
We offer Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander patient and family resource rooms in the Wamburrang Room.
They are located in Canberra Hospital, Building 1, Level 3.
Spiritual Support and Pastoral Care Services
Spiritual care is given during a hospital stay to any person who asks for it. You do not need to be religious or have a faith to benefit from spiritual care.
We can give emotional and pastoral support to you, your family and your friends while you are in hospital, in a way that suits you.
If you have a faith or belong to a religious group, we may be able to arrange someone from that church or faith to support you.
Please tell us if you would like to talk with someone from Spiritual Support Services (at Centenary Hospital) or Pastoral Care at North Canberra Hospital.
Multifaith room
The Multifaith room is a place for private prayer and individual or group meditation. It’s also used as a Christian Chapel, Jewish Temple and for daily Muslim prayers.
You can access a schedule of weekly worship services on the notice board outside the centre.
The Multifaith room is located in Canberra Hospital, Building 3, Level 2 (street level).
Support for Veterans: Centenary Hospital
The Veterans’ Liaison Service helps Veterans, ex-servicemen and women, war widows/widowers and their families when they come to hospital.
They can help with a wide range of services including giving information about the Department of Veterans’ Affairs and liaising with them if needed.
We have a Veterans’ lounge for when you need a change from the ward. Our lounge is wheelchair accessible.
We are located in the Canberra Hospital main foyer, Building 2, Level 2 (street level).
