Emergency Department wait times represent the expected time 4 out of 5 non-critical patients will wait.
- This means that if 5 non-critical patients come through the ED door, 4 of them will be seen within the displayed wait time (or faster) and 1 will wait longer.
- A non-critical patient is someone who is unwell or injured but whose condition isn't immediately life-threatening.
- The wait time is not an average, it’s more reliable. It's the time that 80% of patients wait within.
- Critical and urgent patients are always seen first, regardless of wait time.

University of Canberra Hospital does not have an emergency department. If you need emergency care call 000 or go directly to your nearest emergency department at North Canberra Hospital in Bruce or Canberra Hospital in Garran.
Free care for non-life threatening injuries and illnesses at our Walk-in Centres
Our Walk-in Centres offer free health care for non-life threatening injuries and illnesses. They are located at the Community Health Centres in Belconnen, Inner North (Dickson), Gungahlin, Tuggeranong, and Weston Creek.
Opening hours are from 7.30am to 10pm daily, including public holidays. No appointment is needed.
