Our physiotherapy services provide assessment, information, exercise advice, early intervention and prevention for people who have given birth in the previous 12 months, as well as infants under 12 months of age.
About this service
We offer both individual appointments and group sessions.
Individual Physiotherapy Appointments
We offer physiotherapy assessments and treatments for a range of postnatal conditions including:
- musculoskeletal concerns (especially back, pelvic, and wrist pain)
- abdominal muscle separation
- pelvic floor, bladder and bowel concerns
- treatment for mastitis and blocked ducts
- infant assessment (head shape, neck issues and foot issues).
Physiotherapy Information Group
Our group sessions are a chance for you to come ask our physiotherapists for advice about the first year after giving birth.
Our sessions cover post-natal advice including:
- pelvic floor, bladder and bowel concerns.
- post-natal recovery exercises and general exercise advice
- back, pelvic, wrist and general musculoskeletal care.
We also have advice about your baby, including:
- tummy time ideas
- concerns regarding head shape, neck tightness or preference to turn one way
- feet concerns (such as positional talipes, where your baby’s foot rests down and inwards).
Who we care for
We provide this service for:
- people who have given birth in the previous 12 months
- infants under 12 months of age.
We offer these services for free if you have a Medicare Card or an Asylum Seeker Card.
How to access this service
You do not need a referral from a health professional to access this service; you can refer yourself.

What to expect
We aim to offer you an appointment within 6 weeks.
What to bring to your appointment
- Medicare card
- Any letters or correspondence from your GP
- Previous x-ray films, scans, ultrasounds or any other test results or reports
- Your child’s personal health record (Blue Book)
- Please wear comfortable clothing that you can move freely in to your appointment.
Where we’re located
Our individual appointments are available at 3 clinics across Canberra, including:
- Belconnen Community Health Centre
- Tuggeranong Community Health Centre
- Gungahlin Community Health Centre.
Our physiotherapy information group sessions are held weekly on a Wednesday:
- 1st Wednesday - AM and PM Baby Groups at Florey Child Health Centre
- 2nd Wednesday - AM Mum’s Group, PM Baby Group at Florey Child Health Centre
- 3rd Wednesday - AM Baby Group at Florey Child Health Centre
- 4th Wednesday - AM Mum’s Group and PM Baby Group at TCHC.
Babies can attend the Mum's groups.
