Our Child and Adolescent Mental Health (CAMHS) Cottage is a day program for young people who have moderate to severe mental health issues which impacts their ability to attend school.
About this service
The Cottage program runs four days a week from 9.00am-2.45pm. The program aims to support young people make functional gains, to build their confidence and capacity to return to school or vocational programs.
We provide both education and therapy in a small group setting of no more than 10 students. People typically use our service for 1-2 school terms.
Who we care for
We care for young people who are:
- Aged 13-18 years
- Residents of the ACT
- Experiencing moderate to severe mental health issues
- Enrolled in, but disengaged from school due to their mental health issues
- A current Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service client.
How to access this service
We only accept referrals from other Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service community or specialist teams.
These teams provide mental health services for young people aged 18 years and under with moderate to severe mental health issues. Anyone can be referred to the Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service by contacting the Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service community teams.
What to expect
You need to be a Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service client to access this program.
If you are a client, your clinical manager can provide additional information on The Cottage program and support you to attend one of our ‘open group’ sessions. These weekly sessions give you the opportunity to see our premises, meet our team and build your confidence being around other young people.
Once you have attended two open group sessions, your clinical manager can make a referral to The Cottage program.
