The CHS Medical Services Group (MSG) includes Medical Administration and recruitment support for the junior and senior medical workforce, including the PGY1/2 medical education and training program and Director of Prevocational Education and Training office, the GP Liaison Unit (GPLU) and Office for Research and Education.

The PMEO IMG reports to the Director Education and Training International Medical Graduates and has direct line management through the Executive Director of Medical Services. The position is responsible for supporting the training and clinical supervision of International Medical Graduates employed through Canberra Health Services.

Key responsibilities

Under limited direction of the Director of Education and Training International Medical Graduates (DET IMG) you will:

  • Provide professional leadership, orientation, remediation, mentorship, support and advocacy to the International Medical Graduate Doctors particularly those experiencing difficulties, under direction of the Director of Education and Training International Medical Graduates (DET IMG)).
  • Liaise with and be a resource to term supervisors, consultant staff, the DPET and MOSCETU, including but not limited to assisting with term assessment processes, performance management, and liaison with the Medical Roster Team in the coordination of rosters and the International Medical Coordination Administration team with regards to medical registration requirements.
  • Assist the Director of Education and Training International Medical Graduates (DET IMG) in the provision of the overarching International Medical Graduate Doctors orientation and education program, including ongoing development and evaluation.
  • Assist with the Canberra Region Medical Education Council (CRMEC) accreditation function for CHS, and regularly attend meetings on behalf of CHS including the Prevocational Education Training Committee (PETC).
  • Undertake other duties as directed, within the approved scope of clinical practice ensuring the delivery of high-quality person and family centred, safe and high-quality patient care.
  • Undertake other duties appropriate to this level of classification which contribute to the operation of the organisation

  • Prior experience in Medical Education.
  • CHS is leading the drive to digitally transform health service delivery in Australia through the implementation of a territory wide Digital Health Record. Computer literacy skills are required which are relevant to this role as you will be responsible for completing required documentation and becoming a proficient user of the Digital Health Record and/or other Information Technology systems; once proficient, you will need to remain current with changes, updates, and contingencies.

  • Undergo a pre-employment National Police Check.
  • Comply with Canberra Health Services Occupational Assessment, Screening and Vaccination policy.

What you require (key selection criteria)

  1. Proven experience in medical education, including a strong understanding of contemporary issues in education requirements and training pathways for International Medical Graduate doctors in training.
  2. Demonstrates excellent interpersonal, communication, negotiation and conflict resolution skills to build functional working relationships and to liaise with a range of stakeholders, both clinical and administrative.
  3. Demonstrates ability to work cohesively within a small team, displaying strategic thinking and problem-solving abilities.
  4. Possesses knowledge of the Australian Medical Council (AMC) and AHPRA accreditation processes and requirements, and industrial frameworks related to performance management of doctors in training.
  5. Demonstrates understanding of, and adherence to, safety and quality standards, Work Health and Safety and the positive patient experience. Displays behaviour consistent with CHS’s values of reliable, progressive, respectful, and kind.

North Canberra Hospital - As of 3 July 2023 Calvary Public Hospital Bruce transitioned to CHS and became North Canberra Hospital. The transition will deliver a health system networked under one provider and will provide increased workforce opportunities for staff at both CHS sites. The ACT Government will be building a new northside hospital on the existing hospital campus in Bruce to meet the growing health care needs of our community, with construction to commence mid-decade providing more beds, increased services, and increased career opportunities.
