CHWC is a level 6 tertiary centre providing specialised maternity, neonatology and paediatric services for the ACT and surrounding regional areas to approximately 3800 women per year. Our continuity of midwifery care program provides maternity care to low risk women planning to birth in the Birth Centre environment and continuity of midwifery care to ‘all risk’ women with a plan to birth in our Birthing Suite. The program also offers publicly funded homebirth to women meeting eligibility requirements

Reporting to the Clinical Midwifery Manager, the level 2 Registered Midwife is responsible for providing midwifery leadership within the team. This includes supporting staff to achieve excellence in clinical, quality and safe practice, working collaboratively with the multidisciplinary team and with consumers of maternity services. The level 2 Registered Midwife will lead by example in upholding the CHS values and actively participate in developing a culture that promotes the CHS values and vision within the work unit.

- Canberra Midwives Program-continuity programs
- Maternity and Gynaecology Outpatients
Duties
Under limited direction of the Clinical Midwife Manager you will:
- Demonstrate clinical leadership and expertise in midwifery care.
- Co-ordinate and provide advanced midwifery care in accordance with Canberra Health Services Policies and Procedures, National Midwifery Guidelines for Consultation and Referral and relevant legislation.
- Provide comprehensive care involving appropriate consultation, referral, and collaboration within a multidisciplinary team approach. This includes providing a supportive educational environment to enable women and their families to make informed choices about their care.
- Promote midwives within the multidisciplinary team as valuable experts contributing to positive outcomes for women and their families and promote an environment that encourages both individual and team development.
- In consultation with the Clinical Midwifery Manager, demonstrate responsibility for human and material resources to facilitate the delivery of a safe standard of care for all consumers.
- Demonstrate commitment to ongoing professional development by maintaining competence in mandatory education and skills development for self and others and leading and participating in continuing education, reflective practice and supervision of new clinical staff.
- Participate in the development and review of policy, procedures, quality activities, risk management and clinical meetings to build an environment of excellence in midwifery care.
- Undertake other duties appropriate to this level of classification which contribute to the operation of the organisation.

Position Requirements / Qualifications
Mandatory
- Be registered or be eligible for registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) qualifications.
- Relevant midwifery qualifications and a minimum of 4 years’ experience working professionally in midwifery, or postgraduate studies.
- CHS is leading the drive to digitally transform health service delivery in Australia through the implementation of a territory wide Digital Health Record. Computer literacy skills are required which are relevant to this role as you will be responsible for completing required documentation and becoming a proficient user of the Digital Health Record and/or other Information Technology systems; once proficient, you will need to remain current with changes, updates, and contingencies.
- Have an understanding of how the National Safety and Quality Health Service (NSQHS) indicators align with this role.
- Experience or knowledge of the CHS Exceptional Care Framework, Clinical Governance Framework, Partnering With Consumers Framework and all other related frameworks.

What you Require (Key Selection Criteria)
These are the key selection criteria for how you will be assessed in conjunction with your resumé and experience.
- Demonstrated competency and commitment in the provision of evidence-informed midwifery care to women throughout the childbearing process; and to actively encourage women to participate in their care.
- Proven leadership in providing direct patient care in a midwifery environment with women of varying complexity whilst working within professional legislation.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively and appropriately (orally, non-verbally and in writing), in a diverse range of situations including negotiation and consultation using consistent and transparent processes and working within a multidisciplinary team.
- Demonstrated knowledge of contemporary trends and issues related to midwifery practice with proven evidence of commitment to professional development and active participation to quality improvement and education that promote evidence-based midwifery practice and improved health outcomes.
- Demonstrates understanding of, and adherence to, safety and quality standards, work, health and safety (WH&S) and the positive patient experience. Displays behaviour consistent with CHS’s values of reliable, progressive, respectful and kind.
