Position overview

The CHS Renal Service delivers inpatient and outpatient care for individuals with renal dysfunction across the ACT. Its multidisciplinary approach supports a full continuum of care, including management of acute kidney injury, chronic kidney disease, dialysis (in-centre and home), kidney transplantation, and renal supportive care.

The Renal Ward accommodates both renal / medical inpatients from many specialities across CHS. The ward offers inpatient care to patients admitted with renal dysfunction and multiple co-morbidities as well as medical patients with complex conditions and associated complications.

The Registered Nurse Level 2 is seen by the organisation as a source of expert nursing knowledge, especially within the Renal nursing field, skills, and attributes.

The Registered Nurse Level 2 must demonstrate a higher level of skill and the ability to perform a more demanding role covering the domains: clinical care, leadership, education, safety, and communication.

Key responsibilities

Under the limited direction of the Clinical Nurse Consultant, you will perform the role and responsibilities of a registered Nurse to provide the best quality care. You will:

  • Provide specialised nursing care to patients across a spectrum of complexity, applying comprehensive risk assessments and clinical judgement while adhering to professional legislation, standards, and organisational policies.
  • Communicate effectively and respectfully in diverse clinical situations, fostering collaboration with the multidisciplinary team, nursing colleagues, patients, and their families to ensure safe and person-centred care.
  • Provide clinical leadership and mentorship by guiding and supporting less experienced staff in the delivery of care to patients with complex needs, promoting a culture of excellence and continuous learning.
  • Participate in professional development and quality improvement through participation in education, research, and the development of clinical guidelines, while actively sharing knowledge and contributing to the growth of others and the advancement of nursing practice.
  • Consistently display commitment to, compliance with and leadership in work, health and safety (WH&S) and the positive patient experience and displays behaviour consistent with CHS values of Reliable, Progressive, Respectful and Kind.
  • Undertake other duties appropriate to this level of classification which contribute to the operation of the organisation

Qualifications

Essential

  • Tertiary Qualification in nursing.
  • Registered or eligible for registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA).
  • Have an understanding of how the National Safety and Quality Health Service (NSQHS) indicators align with this role.

Desirable

  • Holds or working towards a Post Graduate qualification in renal nursing.

Computer literacy skills are required which are relevant to this role as you will be responsible for completing required documentation and becoming a proficient user of the Digital Health Record and/or other Information Technology systems; once proficient, you will need to remain current with changes, updates, and contingencies.
