Position overview
The Cardiac Catheter Laboratory is a clinical specialty area that undertakes a range of cardiac diagnostic, interventional and electrophysiology procedures. Canberra Hospital has three laboratories equipped to provide a 24-hour service for patients with acute and chronic cardiac conditions. The Cardiac Catheter Laboratory also includes a Day Procedure Unit. Daily operational hours are Monday to Friday, 07:00hrs to 17:00hrs with on-call coverage for STEMI activation outside of business hours.
Registered Nurses are members of the multidisciplinary team and have a key role in caring for patients admitted to the Cardiac Catheter Laboratory
Key responsibilities
Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following.
- Provide comprehensive client focused care to patients in the Cardiac Catheter Laboratory including the Cardiac Day Ward utilising innovative, and evidence-based practice.
- Practice in a way which acknowledges the dignity, culture, values, beliefs, and rights of individuals while adhering to safe practice and relevant legislation
- Perform tasks in environments where lead PPE is required, ensuring proper use and adherence to radiation safety standards.
- Fulfil the responsibilities of this role as detailed in the CHS Exceptional Care Framework, Clinical Governance Framework, Partnering With Consumers Framework and all other related frameworks.
- Maintain individual professional development plan, complete mandatory training requirements, participate in area specific training and contribute to a culture of learning in the Cardiac Catheter Laboratory.
- Undertake other duties appropriate to this level of classification which contribute to the operation of the organisation.

Qualifications
Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following.
Essential
- Tertiary Qualification or related qualification in nursing
- Registered or eligible for registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA).
- Have an understanding of how the National Safety and Quality Health Service (NSQHS) indicators align with this role.
Desirable
- Advanced Life Support certification
- Acute cardiac or critical care nursing experience.
Experience
Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following.
Essential
- A minimum 2-years post registration nursing experience working in an acute care setting
- Experience or knowledge of the CHS Exceptional Care Framework, and all other related frameworks.
Desirable
- Nursing experience in the Cardiac Catheter Laboratory
- Administering procedural sedation
- Experience with 12-lead electrocardiograms (ECG) and arrhythmia interpretations
Prior to commencement
Appointment to this position is conditional on being granted and retaining appropriate clearances.
