The Enhanced Child Health Services at the Women Youth and Children Community Health Programs at Canberra Health Services is focused on the primary health services for children, young people and families/carers, for referrals regarding child abuse or developmental and behavioural concerns for children up to the age of 16 years.

The Enhanced Child Health Service is a multidisciplinary team, comprising of medical, nursing and allied health professionals and is delivered under a partnership model in which decision making and respectful and sensitive care are central to achieving outcomes.

Key responsibilities

Under the direction of the Clinical Nurse Consultant, you will

  • Provide high quality, clinical nursing care, to clients experiencing an increased risk of poor health or developmental outcomes due to an intersection of complex health and psychosocial needs, that is consistent with current evidence and best practice whilst incorporating the vision and values of Canberra Health Services
  • Effectively communicate, using a trauma informed lens, with consumers to accurately assess health needs and to plan, implement and evaluate interventions in accordance with existing practice standards, health promotion and illness/injury prevention strategies.
  • Work collaboratively with teams and services within Enhanced Health Services, broadly across WYC, and with external stakeholders and services, to support the delivery of timely, appropriate referrals and consultation, and holistic, comprehensive care that contributes to enhanced health and wellbeing outcomes for consumers
  • Participate in the ongoing development, delivery and evaluation of education and training programs to staff, stakeholders, and consumers in the areas of child protection, family violence and other areas of clinical expertise.
  • Ensure a sound evidence base for clinical practice through the application of contemporary, best practice, interventions, and research in clinical nursing practice and in the development of policy, procedures, and quality improvement activities
  • Actively contribute to education, support, and clinical supervision and of new nursing staff and students and model an exemplary level of professional and ethical standards in clinical interventions and upholding the National Quality and Safety Health Care Standards
  • Contribute to a positive workplace culture by building collegial professional relationships and demonstrating a commitment to proactively seeking solutions when issues arise.
  • Undertake other duties appropriate to this level of classification which contribute to the operation of the organisation.

Qualifications

Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following.

Essential

  • A tertiary qualification in nursing.
  • Registered or eligible for registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA).

Desirable

  • Qualifications such as midwifery, paediatrics and completion of Family Partnership Model and/or Circle of security training is desirable
  • Have an understanding of how the National Safety and Quality Health Service (NSQHS) indicators align with this role.

Experience

Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following.

Essential

  • A minimum of 4 years’ full time equivalent experience as a registered nurse in Child and Family Health or Paediatric nursing.

Desirable

Prior to commencement

Appointment to this position is conditional on being granted and retaining appropriate clearances.

  • Pre-employment National Police Check.
  • Comply with Canberra Health Services Occupational Assessment, Screening and Vaccination policy.

  3. Demonstrated ability to participate in the development, and delivery, of education sessions, and demonstrated competence in the use of Information Technology in health service provision.
  4. Demonstrated commitment to safe and evidence-based practice through participation and contribution to systems of Clinical Governance through the development of policy and procedure, research, and fostering a learning culture.
