Position overview

The ACT Trauma Service is a Level 1 trauma service providing care to trauma patients injured within the ACT and the southern NSW region from south of Sydney, east to the Sapphire Coast and west to Wagga Wagga. The ACT Trauma Service endeavors to ensure that all trauma patients are optimally cared for from prehospital to discharge.

Key responsibilities

Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following.

  • Works with the Trauma Director to ensure patients receive appropriate care and coordinates the day-to-day Hospital activities of the trauma service,
  • provides expert clinical leadership and management within a nursing and multidisciplinary team,
  • responsible for the development and implementation of policies, procedures and guidelines for trauma management,
  • develop and maintain collaborative partnerships with internal and external stakeholders regarding trauma management. This role includes a strong emphasis on clinical education and training.
  • Undertake other duties appropriate to this level of classification which contribute to the operation of the organisation

Qualifications

Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following.

Essential

  • Unconditional registration as a Registered Nurse with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA)

Desirable

  • Post graduate qualification in or working towards a higher degree in Clinical Nursing or Health Services Management.
  • Abbreviated Injury Coding Certification or working towards

Experience

Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following.

Essential

  • 5 years experience in a relevant specialty
  • CHS is leading the drive to digitally transform health service delivery in Australia through the implementation of a territory wide Digital Health Record.
  • Computer literacy skills are required which are relevant to this role as you will be responsible for completing required documentation and becoming a proficient user of the Digital Health Record and/or other Information Technology systems; once proficient, you will need to remain current with changes, updates and contingencies.

  • Undergo a pre-employment National Police Check.

  1. Demonstrated advanced clinical knowledge and experience in trauma care, with the ability to provide leadership in clinical practice, strategic service planning, education, research, and workforce development
  2. Proven ability to lead, coordinate, and collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams and specialties to ensure optimal patient outcomes throughout the continuum of trauma care including the ability to problem-solve in high-pressure situations.
  3. Experience in utilizing data to analyze and monitor patient outcomes, service standards, demographic and injury trends, and implement performance improvement initiatives to enhance the quality of trauma care and service delivery
  4. Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to engage empathetically with patients and families, provide clear guidance to staff, and collaborate effectively with internal and external stakeholders.
  5. Demonstrated understanding of, and adherence to, safety and quality standards, work health and safety (WH&S), and a commitment to providing a positive patient experience. Displays behaviour consistent with CHS’s values of reliable, progressive, respectful, and kind.
