The Acute Coronary Care Unit (ACCU) at CHS provides care for patients admitted from the ACT and South Eastern region of NSW. Diagnoses include ST Elevation Myocardial Infarction (STEMI) for primary intervention (24hour, 7 days a week service); Acute Coronary Syndrome for angiography plus or minus intervention; arrhythmias, heart failure and elective procedures. ACCU works closely with the Cardiac Catheter lab, Cardiac Rehabilitation team and Cardiac Technicians, and has a cohesive and cooperative working relationship with our Cardiologists and Registrars. ACCU is committed to the training, education and support of its staff members as well as undergraduate and new graduate nurses. including cardiac implantable devices, cardioversion, and PCI.
The Clinical Development Nurse (CDN) in the ACCU is recognised as a senior clinician with advanced nursing expertise in the care of high-acuity cardiac patients. The role provides clinical leadership, guidance, and support to nursing staff, while promoting evidence-based practice and ongoing professional development. The CDN maintains a strong clinical presence and delivers direct patient care as required, while contributing to education, quality improvement, and safe, effective care delivery within the unit.

Under limited direction of the ACCU Clinical Nurse Coordinator (CNC) you will perform the role of ACCU CDN you will be responsible for:

- Promote evidence based best practice by facilitating education for ACCU Nurses at all stages of the learning continuum by:
- Orientating and precepting of new staff/students
- Undertaking competency assessments as required.
- Providing one on one supervision of clinical practice as required.
- Disseminating knowledge gained through attendance at educational forums through feedback at staff meetings and/or written reports.
- Support staff in the delivery of education programs/ packages.
- Facilitate the development of clinical in-services to staff in response to identified education requirements and contemporary evidence-based practices.
- Ensure staff have essential education requirements completed on an annual basis and
- Facilitate regular assessment of staff for essential learning competencies
- Assist CNC to identify learning needs
- Assist staff with Strengths, Engagement and Development Plans.
- Coordinate training, assessments and credentialing of skills required within the clinical area.

- Supporting policy change and new clinical initiatives to foster a dynamic workplace
- Participate in risk management, quality improvement, nursing practice review and clinical research activities
- Participate in the development and review of specific learning framework and packages to reflect evidence-based practice and current literature
- Facilitate reflective practice for nurses and facilitate or arrange debriefing sessions, providing advice and support as required.

Qualifications
Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following.
Essential
- Tertiary qualification in nursing
- Registered or eligible for registration with the National Nursing and Midwifery Board through the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA).
Desirable
- Holds or is working towards relevant post-graduate qualifications.
- Cert IV in Training and Assessment
- Have an understanding of how the National Safety and Quality Health Service (NSQHS) indicators align with this role.
Experience
Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following.
Essential
- A minimum of 4 years fulltime or equivalent experience working professionally in acute care nursing is preferred.
- Following a period of training it is expected you will achieve competency in Advanced Life Support
- Experience or knowledge of the CHS Exceptional Care Framework, Clinical Governance Framework, and all other related frameworks.
Desirable
- Prior experience in leadership will be highly desirable.
- Prior experience in acute cardiac areas.

Appointment to this position is conditional on being granted and retaining appropriate clearances.

Key selection criteria

- Demonstrated ability to provide strong clinical leadership in a high-acuity cardiac environment, including expert knowledge of acute coronary syndromes, clinical decision-making, and the delivery of safe, evidence-based, patient-centered care.
- Proven experience in leading clinical governance activities, including incident management, monitoring and analysing clinical outcomes and KPI’s, and implementing quality improvement initiatives aligned with the National Safety and Quality Health Service (NSQHS) Standards.
- Demonstrated ability to lead, manage, and develop a skilled nursing workforce, including ensuring clinical competency, supporting professional development, fostering a positive and accountable team culture, and managing performance in a complex clinical environment.
- Demonstrated experience in managing human, financial, and material resources to achieve agreed service levels, alongside effective collaboration with medical officers, allied health, and other stakeholders to support patient flow, coordinated care, and service planning.
