Position overview

CHS is committed to whole-of-system management through the establishment of an Integrated Operations Centre (IOC), with an operations management function that brings together three things: Operational planning, Scheduling, and Daily response/oversight of clinical operations.

You will be able to quickly acquire knowledge and understanding of situations, working productively with a range of stakeholders. You will have sound technical skills and ability to use office-based systems for data management and analytics.

Key responsibilities

Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following.

Reporting to the Director of Nursing (Site Operations), the Stream Manager will actively manage the end-to-end process of patients accessing CHS clinical services via planned and unplanned admissions. You will:

  1. Provide effective leadership and direction to multidisciplinary teams across CHS, defining the stream plan is for the day, whether the plan is likely to unfold as planned, what tolerances or controls are being breached and what responses are either appropriate or necessary.
  2. Provide expert operations management advice, monitoring and reporting on initiatives and strategic priorities of the IOC and CHS.
  3. Coordinate, manage and be responsible for the safe and efficient flow of patients in and through the Acute Service Stream ensuring proficiency and appropriateness of patient care delivery at an operational level. This includes proactive prevention of relevant clinical category breaches and flow issues.
  4. Represent the Acute Service Stream at operational huddles, providing daily and forecasted capacity and demand, identifying and managing stream queues with an emphasis on the Emergency Department, Operating theatres and Procedural Suites.
  5. Provide effective leadership and direction to staff in all aspects of clinical operations including the development and monitoring of professional practices which support models of care, statutory obligations, professional development, workforce planning and quality improvement inclusive of the National Standards for Quality and Safety in Healthcare in the work environment.
  6. Provide a central point of contact for the TCH General Manager and Director of Nursing (Site Operations) regarding stream capacity, performance and constraint, and escalation management should this be required.
  7. Undertake other duties appropriate to this level of classification which contribute to the operation of the organisation.

  • Leads transformation and innovation in patient flow, while maintaining composure and effectiveness during high-demand, escalation, and crisis situations.

Qualifications

Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following.

Essential

  • Be registered or be eligible for registration as a Registered Nurse with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA).
  • Motivated, enthusiastic and a strong communicator to effectively liaise with internal and external stakeholders.

Desirable

  • Relevant post graduate qualifications in nursing, health management or leadership

Prior to commencement

Please note prior to commencement successful candidates will be required to:

  • Obtain a Compliance Certificate from OMU (Occupational Medicine Unit) relating to assessment, screening & vaccination processes against specified infectious diseases.

Computer literacy skills are required which are relevant to this role as you will be responsible for completing required documentation and becoming a proficient user of the Digital Health Record and/or other Information Technology systems; once proficient, you will need to remain current with changes, updates, and contingencies.
