Position overview
The Walk in Centres (WiCs) are a primary health service with Advanced Practice Nurses (APN) and Nurse Practitioners (NP) who provide episodic care for minor injury and illness to the ACT community and surrounds. Advanced Practice Nurses provide care to clients, using advanced clinical assessment skills supported by clinical treatment protocols, medication standing orders and advanced clinical decision making.
Key responsibilities
Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following.
Under limited direction of the Walk-in Centre Clinical Nurse Manager, you will provide episodic primary health care for minor injury and illness to the ACT community. Duties include:
- Deliver advanced, comprehensive nursing assessment, planning and implementation of care in accordance with Walk-in Centre protocols and in collaboration with other members of the Walk-in Centre team. While providing relevant opportunistic health promotion.
- Contribute to clinical output using critical analysis and problem-solving skills. Maintain learnings in the primary health role to actively educate and support clients, enabling active participation in their own care.
- Accountable for coordinating, managing and providing clinical care and appropriate internal and external stakeholder referral for clients within the nursing model of care of the WiC with an emphasis on consumer experience, collaborative care decision making and safety.
- Participate in clinical analysis and review including outcome-based decision making and research related to Walk-in Centre activity. Contribute to the professional development of self and others working in the Walk-in Centre.
- Support and promote the CHS values of Reliable, Progressive, Respectful and Kind through a working understanding of the integral role these values play in the holistic operation of the Walk-in Centre
- Undertake other duties appropriate to this level of classification which contribute to the operation of the organisation.
Competencies
Specific competencies include but are not limited to the following:
- Successful completion of the Objective Structured Clinical Exams (OSCE) is to be met within four weeks of commencement and are based on practical demonstration of understanding the Walk-in Centre Clinical Treatment Protocols.
- Strong organisational skills with a high degree of drive and ability to critically think.
- Adaptability and flexibility to accommodate change and provide responsive services to meet service and patients’ needs.
- Provide clinical leadership and guidance, working respectfully in partnership with the Walk-in Centre team and stakeholders.
- Provide high-level operational and clinical advice to senior management.
- Assist in formulation and delivery of the areas operational, business and clinical plans and protocols.
- Capacity to work a rotating roster with weekends, Public Holidays, and evening work.
- Ability to work across all Walk-in Centre sites.
Qualifications
Specific qualifications include, but are not limited to, the following:
Essential
- Relevant Tertiary or relevant qualifications
- Registered or be eligible for registration as a Registered Nurse with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA).
Desirable
- Primary health assessment and treatment experience.
- Tertiary level qualification OR Post Graduate course work or study.
- Have an understanding of how the National Safety and Quality Health Service (NSQHS) indicators align with this role.
Experience
Specific experience includes, but is not limited to, the following.
Essential
- Minimum of 5 years full time equivalent post graduate nursing experience.
- Ability to work across all ACT Walk-in Centres, as directed.
- Experience or knowledge of the CHS Exceptional Care Framework, Clinical Governance Framework, and all other related frameworks.
- The successful applicant must be available for a rotating roster with weekends, Public Holidays and evening work
Desirable
- A minimum of 5 years’ experience working professionally in primary health assessment experience is preferred
- Have an understanding of how the National Safety and Quality Health Service (NSQHS) indicators align with this role.
Prior to commencement
Appointment to this position is conditional on being granted and retaining appropriate clearances.
