Position overview
The Peri-Operative Unit at Canberra Hospital consists of a Day of Surgery Admissions (DOSA) Unit, Operating Theatres covering a wide range of surgical specialties, Post Anaesthetic Care Unit (PACU) and Extended Day Surgery Unit (EDSU) together with several out of areas procedural/invasive specialty areas.
Perioperative Resource Manager reports directly to Assistant Director of Nursing Perioperative Unit and joins the Nursing Leadership team. This position is responsible for the management of the physical and fiscal resources within the Perioperative Unit.
The Nursing Leadership team is responsible for the strategic and operational management of the Perioperative unit, nursing workforce, ensuring safe, efficient, and effective operations of the business unit.
Key responsibilities
Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following.
- Ensure adequate and appropriate stock levels of surgical supplies and instrumentation through the rationalization and standardization of stock whilst meeting requirement of safe patient care.
- Manage equipment stock supply against clinical requirement within delegated accountability including the management of clinical trials of new equipment and consumables.
- Manage the replacement of damaged and outdated instrumentation and consumables within Perioperative Services.
- Provide leadership, direction, support, supervision, and education to staff responsible for Perioperative Unit Resources and ensure management of performance issues/appraisals for all nursing staff within the area of responsibility.
- Assist in annual budget planning processes and monitoring of budget process, including monthly analysis of goods and services expenditure, and reporting on stock usage variation. Seek cost savings and perform cost analysis reviews on products rationalising implementation.
- Develop consignment, reagent, and maintenance agreements for the placement of surgical instrumentation and capital equipment in the Perioperative Unit. Ensuring compliance with ACT Procurement legislation and thresholds.
- Manage and replace Perioperative unit assets in-line with CHS strategic asset plan. Facilitate procurement of equipment that is complainant with ACT Procurement Legislation. Responsibilities include completing funding applications, complete procurement minutes, exemptions and contract negotiations in line with CHS value for money principals. Actively support tenders with the development of statements of requirements and associated tender documents and perform panel/evaluation team duties.
- Undertake other duties appropriate to this level of classification which contribute to the operation of the organisation.

Qualifications
Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following.
Essential
- Tertiary Qualification or related qualification in Nursing
- Registered or eligible for registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA).
Desirable
- Have an understanding of how the National Safety and Quality Health Service (NSQHS) indicators align with this role.
- Holds or is working towards a tertiary management and/or nursing qualification.
Experience
Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following.
Essential
- 5 years’ fulltime equivalent work experience in Perioperative Nursing
- Experience or knowledge of the CHS Exceptional Care Framework, Clinical Governance Framework, and all other related frameworks.
Desirable
- Prior experience in Resource manager role will be highly desirable
