Position overview
The Medical Imaging Department at CHS operates 24 hours, seven days a week, offering a wide range of state-of-the-art radiology modalities including Interventional Radiology, CT, MRI, PET, Ultrasound and Nuclear Medicine services for patients in Canberra and the Southeast regions.
Medical Imaging Level 1 Registered Nurses demonstrate a broad range of nursing knowledge and skills to support the provision of all clinical radiology services in accordance with the RANZCR Standards of Practice for Clinical Radiology.
The successful candidate must be available to work a rotating roster, including morning, evening, night shifts, and participate in an on-call roster to support emergency interventional procedures including acute stroke thrombectomy.
Key responsibilities
Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following.
- Apply comprehensive, best practice nursing care and treatment for clients within medical imaging.
- Practice within own scope of practice, maintaining core competencies and engaging in activities to enhance knowledge and skills that support the delivery of quality patient outcomes in Medical Imaging.
- Provide patient care within ethical and professional frameworks and in accordance with the relevant legislation.
- Integrate organisational policy and guidelines with professional standards to provide evidence-based processes that support the Medical Imaging model of care.
- Participate in risk assessment, incident and accident reporting, continuous quality improvement activities, program-based research and accreditation that aim at improving the level of service to patients.
- Communicate and collaborate effectively with staff and patients, respecting the human rights principles of equity, access, privacy, safety, respect, partnership, and information.
- Undertake other duties appropriate to this level of classification which contribute to the operation of the organisation.

Qualifications
Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following.
Essential
- Tertiary qualification in Nursing or related qualification in nursing.
- Registered or eligible for registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA).
Desirable
- Have an understanding of how the National Safety and Quality Health Service (NSQHS) indicators align with this role.
Experience
Specific responsibilities include but are not limited to the following.
Essential
- A minimum of 1 years’ fulltime equivalent experience as a Registered Nurse
- Be available for weekend and on-call work to meet department needs.
Desirable
- Completion of a nursing graduate program
- Prior experience in an acute or subacute hospital setting will be highly desirable.
- Fulfil the responsibilities of this role in alignment to the CHS Exceptional Care Framework, and all other related frameworks
Prior to commencement
Appointment to this position is conditional on being granted and retaining appropriate clearances.

Computer literacy skills are required which are relevant to this role as you will be responsible for completing required documentation and becoming a proficient user of the Digital Health Record and/or other Information Technology systems; once proficient, you will need to remain current with changes, updates, and contingencies.
