Position overview
14B is a 28 bed Medical, Radiation Oncology, Rheumatology, and Dermatology and ward incorporating all patients from diagnosis to end of life care. We have a strong core staff and would like to expand this with committed, compassionate, and dedicated staff that can retain their humour and fun side in a very acute setting.
The Clinical Development Nurse (CDN) is integral to the learning and development of the ward through assisting individual nurses in the assessment of their own learning needs, assimilation of skills and knowledge, and evaluation of outcomes.
Key responsibilities
Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following.
- Facilitate clinical teaching within the workplace utilising adult learning principles and following practice standards and policies
- Facilitate the development of clinical in-services to nurses considering local requirements and contemporary evidence-based practices
- Facilitate reflective practice sessions for nurses within clinical area. In collaboration with the CNC facilitate or arrange debriefing sessions with nurses and provide advice and support as required
- Attend to competency-based assessment of all nurses within clinical settings as outlined in ANC and other specialised competencies where they exist or where they may be developed within the clinical area. Assist CNC to identify learning needs
- Assist in the support, development, and assessment of new preceptors on the clinical area
- Participate in risk management, quality improvement, nursing practice review and clinical research activities
- Undertake other duties appropriate to this level of classification which contribute to the operation of the organization.
Competencies
Specific responsibilities include but are not limited to the following.
- Antineoplastic Drug Administration Course (ADAC) assessor qualification
- Up to date with all ADAC modules and chemotherapy competent
- Train the trainer qualifications
- Basic Life Support Assessor
- Aseptic technique Assessor
- CVADs Assessor
- Hand Hygiene Auditor
- Life long learning and accountability in professional practice
- Promote teamwork and adult learning principles
Qualifications
Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following.
Essential
- Tertiary Qualification or related qualification in nursing
- Registered or eligible for registration as a Registered Nurse with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA).
Desirable
- Antineoplastic Drug Administration Course (ADAC) assessor qualification
- Train the trainer qualifications
- Post graduate qualification in cancer nursing or education and development
- Have an understanding of how the National Safety and Quality Health Service (NSQHS) indicators align with this role.
Experience
Specific responsibilities include but are not limited to the following.
Essential
- Minimum 4 years’ fulltime equivalent experience working as a registered nurse.
Desirable
- Prior experience in cancer nursing
- Experience in training and development
- Experience or knowledge of the CHS Exceptional Care Framework, Clinical Governance Framework, Partnering With Consumers Framework and all other related frameworks.

Appointment to this position is conditional on being granted and retaining appropriate clearances.
