Position overview

We have an exciting opportunity for registered nurses with no prior emergency or paediatric experience to join a collaborative paediatric training program. This unique 12-month Foundations of Paediatric Nursing Program provides the chance to gain experience across the Canberra Hospital Paediatric and Adolescent Wards and Paediatric Emergency Department. With temporary and permanent opportunities available, staff will be supported through 6-month rotations across both departments. Throughout each rotation, you will be guided by experienced nurse educators and mentors. At the completion of the 12-month program, you will have the opportunity to provide preference for which department you wish to continue your paediatric nursing career in.

Each rotation comprises targeted training designed to orientate and support you, building your confidence in caring for infants, children, and adolescents across a range of clinical scenarios. The program includes a combination of theoretical and clinical skill-based study days, supervised practice shifts, education and case-based learning opportunities, as well as additional paediatric-specific mandatory training.

  • Registered or eligible for registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA).
