Position overview
The Renal Network provides comprehensive care for patients with all stages of renal impairment across the ACT and Southern NSW. Services include inpatient and outpatient care such as acute hemodialysis, satellite and home dialysis, the Chronic Kidney Disease Program, Renal Supportive Care, renal transplantation, dialysis access, general nephrology, clinical trials, and human research. The team adopts a multidisciplinary, evidence-based approach and is dedicated to delivering patient-centered care
The Renal Quality and Strategy Officer assist the Renal Network in quality and safety of care that underpins the work that the Renal Network aims to achieve in patient safety, patient experience and quality improvement.
This role requires a high understanding and implementation of the National Safety and Quality Health Service (NSQHD) Standards, accreditation processes, quality and safety data collection, patient surveys and clinical audit programs.
Key responsibilities
Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following.
- Lead and support quality improvement (QI) initiatives across the renal network by partnering with staff to implement projects that enhance patient and staff experiences.
- Deliver QI education and embed improvement practices by working collaboratively with clinical teams to implement new initiatives aligned with models of care and clinical pathways.
- Promote and standardise best practices by identifying successful models of care and supporting their rollout across the renal network to ensure consistency and compliance.
- Assist in the analysis and enhance data reporting by reviewing DHR reports, BI dashboards, clinical audits, incident data, and ANZDATA; collaborate with the renal data analyst to improve data accuracy and reporting tools; and present clear, actionable reports at renal governance meetings.
- Provide leadership in NSQHS implementation by identifying inconsistencies between policy and practice, maintaining evidence repositories, and supporting teams in understanding and applying PICMoRs principles.
- Monitor compliance and drive improvements by analysing audit results, consumer feedback, and incident reviews, and supporting clinical units in developing and tracking action plans.
- Assist in policy governance by ensuring renal network policies and procedures are current, relevant, and aligned with National Standards and identified risks.
- Undertaking other duties as directed, within the approved scope of clinical practice ensuring the delivery of high-quality person and family centered, safe and high-quality patient care.

Qualifications
Specific qualifications include, but are not limited to, the following.
Essential
- Registered or eligible for registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA).
- Holds or working towards a Post Graduate qualification in renal nursing or relevant field.
Desirable
- Have an understanding of how the National Safety and Quality Health Service (NSQHS) indicators align with this role.
Experience
Specific experience includes, but is not limited to, the following.
Essential
- Minimum of 4 years’ nursing experience working professionally in the healthcare setting.
- Experience or knowledge of the CHS Exceptional Care Framework, Clinical Governance Framework, and all other related frameworks
Desirable
- Proficient in data management and computer systems, with experience using spreadsheets, databases, and clinical trial platforms.

Appointment to this position is conditional on being granted and retaining appropriate clearances.

- Proven Experience and knowledge of implementation of safety and quality in alignment with the Australian National Health Service Standards.
- Proven experience in safety and quality data collection, analysis and quality initiatives with demonstrated understanding of Quality Improvement Methodology in Health Care Settings.
- Demonstrated high level communication and interpersonal skills, and the ability to engage, partner, influence and liaise with a range of professional disciplines and stakeholders including project documentation, reports briefings and correspondence.
- Proven ability to solve problems within a project or program environment with minimal supervision and experience in setting priorities, monitoring and management workflow to meet objectives.
