The trainee Donation Specialist Nursing Coordinator will work in collaboration with the Clinical and Agency Manager and Donation Specialist Nursing Coordinators. They will work on a range of clinical processes, education and awareness raising activities, in accordance with nationally consistent programs and protocols to optimise organ and tissue donation within the ACT. The trainee will also collaborate with the DonateLife ACT multidisciplinary team to optimise organ and tissue donation for transplantation.
Once the successful trainee has completed their training and can independently coordinate organ and tissue donation services in the ACT, there is scope for the position to be reclassified within this recruitment process to a permanent RN3.2 position.

Key responsibilities
Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following.
Under limited direction of the Clinical Manager, DonateLife ACT you will perform the duties required to facilitate organ and tissue donation services in the ACT. This includes raising awareness of organ and tissue donation across the community. You will:
- In collaboration with the State Medical Director and Clinical/Agency Manager – DonateLife ACT facilitates and coordinates organ and tissue donation in the ACT, including the provision of a 24hr service - shift/ weekend and on-call service. The trainee will work Monday-Friday shifts until they are at a stage where they can competently independently coordinate a donation case.
- Facilitate organ and tissue donation by identifying potential organ and tissue donors, providing information to families, gaining consent, donor management, overseeing/ participating in organ and tissue retrieval processes and providing donor family support.
- In consultation with the various portfolio leads, support, analyse, evaluate and develop proposals relating to organ and tissue donation policies, procedures and protocols to ensure evidence based clinical practice and alignment with national policies and procedures.
- Participate in quality programs within DL ACT, including regular case review, agency meetings and other team meetings
- Work with hospital teams to implement national DonateLife programs and protocols including the clinical indicators directed at increasing opportunities for organ and tissue donation in the ACT.
- Develop, support and deliver organ and tissue donation education to local hospital staff and to the ACT community.
- Participate in community events aimed at increasing awareness of organ and tissue donation. Including expertise and assistance for assigned portfolios including data, media/communications, donor family support and education.
- Undertaking other duties as directed, within the approved scope of clinical practice ensuring the delivery of high-quality person and family centred, safe and high quality patient care

- Be registered or be eligible for registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA).
- Current drivers’ licence

- Post-registration qualifications in a critical care specialty (Emergency Department or Intensive Care)
Experience
Specific responsibilities include but are not limited to the following.
Essential
- A minimum of 5 years fulltime equivalent post graduate experience in a critical care area (Emergency Department or Intensive Care). This experience should be recent.
- Fulfil the responsibilities of this role in alignment to the CHS Exceptional Care Framework and all other related frameworks.
Desirable
- Prior experience in coordinating organ and tissue donations will be highly desirable
Prior to commencement
Appointment to this position is conditional on being granted and retaining appropriate clearances.

- Ability to champion, educate and lead health professionals and the community to improve organ and tissue donation rates.
