Position overview
The Occupational Medicine Unit (OMU) forms part of the clinical support services portfolio, under the direction of the Executive Director Nursing and Midwifery. The OMU staff provide range of services including compliance checks against the CHS occupational assessment, screening, and vaccination program, risk assessment and counselling for staff involved with blood and bodily fluid exposures, as well as a clinical response to outbreaks, including pandemic preparedness.
The Clinical Nurse Consultant performs an integral role in the development of clinical policy as well as monitoring and maintaining business unit key performance indicators. Stakeholder engagement, including education and training are integral to the role. As the Clinical Nurse Consultant, you are an expert resource and role model for clinical excellence, whilst leading the development and implementation of evidence based clinical practice aligned with local, national and international guidelines. This role is required to build effective relationships with health care professionals, including doctors, nurses, and allied health staff across CHS to embed national best practice initiatives and optimise strategies and pathways.
Key responsibilities
Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following.
- Provide a leadership role in hospital accreditation processes and procedures with respect to the National Safety and Quality Health Service (NSQHS) Standard.
- Monitor, evaluate and deliver a risk-based workforce immunisation program.
- Develop and maintain appropriately aligned clinical policies and procedures regarding blood and bodily fluid exposures and skin irritation of hands associated with occupational exposure to hand hygiene techniques and products.
- Facilitate the timely and appropriate sharing of data and information related to workforce immunisation records and blood and bodily fluid exposure incidents.
- Facilitate targeted education across CHS, for a range of health care professionals, with regard to vaccine preventable diseases, blood and bodily fluid exposures, FIT testing and skin irritation.
- Undertake other duties appropriate to this level of classification which contribute to the operation of the organisation.

Qualifications
Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following.
Essential
- Tertiary qualification in nursing.
- Postgraduate qualification in health service management or leadership
- Registered or eligible for registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA)
- Driver’s Licence

- Have an understanding of how the National Safety and Quality Health Service (NSQHS) indicators align with this role.
Experience
Specific responsibilities include but are not limited to the following.
Essential
- A minimum of 5 years work experience in an acute care setting

- Fulfil the responsibilities of this role in alignment to the CHS Exceptional Care Framework and all other related frameworks.
Prior to commencement
Appointment to this position is conditional on being granted and retaining appropriate clearances.
