Centenary Hospital for Women and Children (CHWC) is seeking a suitably qualified Registered Midwife level 2 with an interest in data management.
CHWC is a level 6 tertiary centre providing specialised maternity, neonatology and paediatric services for the ACT and surrounding regional areas to approximately 3800 women per year. The CHWC offers antenatal, birthing, and postnatal services under various models of care aimed at providing woman and family centred care. CHWC staff are committed to providing a women centred approach where we focus on the woman’s unique needs, expectations, and aspirations; recognise her right to self-determination in terms of choice, control, and continuity of care; and address her social, emotional, physical, psychological, spiritual, and cultural needs and expectations. The maternity department at CHWC is dynamic with a strong culture of finding innovative modern solutions to the demands and challenges facing contemporary midwifery. Maternity care options include midwifery led continuity of care models, midwifery led care, and maternity team care, working collaboratively with the multidisciplinary team as required. The CHWC is the tertiary referral service for the ACT and Southern NSW region. The Maternity services are supported by a tertiary neonatal service including Intensive Care (NICU), Special Care (SCN) and the regional retrieval service (ACT NETS).
Reporting to the Clinical Midwifery Manager, the Level 2 Registered Midwife is responsible for providing midwifery leadership within the unit.
This includes supporting staff to achieve excellence in clinical, quality and safe practice, working collaboratively with the multidisciplinary team and with consumers of maternity services. The level 2 Registered Midwife will lead by example in upholding the CHS values and actively participate in developing a culture that promotes the CHS values and vision within the work unit.
Key responsibilities
Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following.
Under limited direction of the Clinical Midwifery Manager, you will perform play a key role in providing day to day database management and aggregate data for research, clinical trials, clinical indicator reporting, activity reporting and audit. You will work closely with the multidisciplinary teams within the Department of Maternity and Gynaecology.
You will:
- Operate and maintain the computerised clinical databases for Maternity and Gynaecology, ensuring accurate collection and management of all inpatient and outpatient data for these units.
- Coordinate and aggregate data required by relevant organisations for purposes such as research, clinical trials, clinical indicator reporting, activity reporting and audit.
- Serve as a professional role model and clinical resource within the multidisciplinary maternity and gynaecology team, supporting accurate coding processes and maintaining high-quality data integrity while meeting reporting requirements.
- Maintain a high level of interpersonal and communication skills with a range of health professionals to ensure the accuracy of data collection.
- Implement appropriate feedback mechanisms to members of the multidisciplinary team about their responsibilities with the data collection, while actively participating in professional development, continuing education, clinical research, audit and quality improvement.
- Ensure the confidentiality and integrity of all clinical data, particularly relating to morbidity and mortality reviews, and quality and safety meetings, in accordance with Comprehensive Care principles and the National Safety and Quality Health Service Standards.
- Maintain communication and relations with key stake holders including but not limited to Women’s Healthcare Australasia.
- Undertake other duties appropriate to this level of classification which contribute to the operation of the organisation.

- Ability to identify trends and gaps in care using data and translate findings into actionable recommendations.
- Ability to analyse large datasets, generate dashboards, and produce clear, evidence-based reports for clinical teams and management.
- Competence in translating data insights into clinical practice improvements.
- Knowledge of data governance, confidentiality, and compliance (e.g., privacy laws, hospital policies).
- Familiarity with basic statistics and visualization tools (Excel, Power BI, or similar)
Qualifications
Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following.
Essential
- Be registered or be eligible for registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) as a Registered Midwife.
- CHS is leading the drive to digitally transform health service delivery in Australia through the implementation of a territory wide Digital Health Record. Computer literacy skills are required which are relevant to this role as you will be responsible for completing required documentation and becoming a proficient user of the Digital Health Record and/or other Information Technology systems; once proficient, you will need to remain current with changes, updates and contingencies.
Desirable
- Have an understanding of how the National Safety and Quality Health Service (NSQHS) indicators align with this role.
- Fulfil the responsibilities of this role in alignment to the CHS Exceptional Care Framework, Clinical Governance Framework, Partnering With Consumers Framework and all other related frameworks.
- Postgraduate qualification in Information Computer Technology
Experience
Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following.
Essential
- Proven ability to collect, analyse, and report clinical indicators, audit results, and research data accurately and in compliance with organizational and regulatory standards.
- Strong understanding of evidence-based practice, clinical trials processes, and quality improvement frameworks within maternity care.
- Ability to use electronic medical record systems and software for data collation, auditing, and reporting (e.g., Excel, Power BI, DHR or similar).
Desirable
- Experience in implementing initiatives that improve clinical outcomes and service delivery within maternity care.
- Experience or knowledge of the CHS Exceptional Care Framework, and all other related frameworks.

Appointment to this position is conditional on being granted and retaining appropriate clearances.

Demonstrated ability to provide appropriate education to a range of health care professionals to assist them with the accuracy to data retention polices and standards.
- Ability to plan and co-ordinate daily activities with data management and to prepare benchmarking reports as required. Ability to work with minimal supervision to meet deadlines and manage competing priorities.
- Evidence of commitment to, and participation in, professional development practice review, clinical research, quality improvement and evaluation/development in Neonatal and/or Maternity/Gynaecology care.
