The position is situated within Adult Community Mental Health Services (ACMHS). ACMHS provides evidenced based care and support for people over the age of 18 years while also collaborating with carers, Nominated Persons, supports and other key stakeholders.

ACMHS teams operate across the Australian Capital Territory, adhering to both the Adult Community Mental Health Model of Care and the Older Persons Community Mental Health Model of Care.

This position may be required to transfer to other areas of ACMHS as clinically needed and according to vacancy.

This position adheres to the Adult Community Mental Health Services (ACMHS) program area operating procedure to ensure that team operations and clinical delivery remains current and is aligned with the greater CHS values and strategic plan.

Key responsibilities

Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following.

  1. Provide leadership and accountability for the development, management, reporting and evaluation of team activity against key performance targets, governance requirements, the efficient use of financial, human, and physical resources, and maintaining privacy and accuracy of health records.
  2. Ensure that Work Health Safety (WHS) practices adhere to CHS WHS policy.
  3. Provide clinical leadership in areas of care and clinical governance that are evidenced based, aligned with National Standards for Mental Health Services 2010 and the Mental Health Act 2015.
  4. In partnership with sector agencies, implement identified strategies to support health promotion, provide timely assistance and organize other service delivery activities identified in National and Territory plans, as they relate to adult community mental health teams.
  5. Promote quality activities and processes that support compliance with the National Safety and Quality Standards and contribute to the governance structure by active participation in organisational development, committees, policy development and other relevant working groups.
  6. Align the team so that professional practice is underpinned by continuing professional development, clinical supervision, support for research activities, and strength engagement and development (SED) plans in consultation.
  7. Demonstrated understanding of the organisational values of Reliable, Progressive, Respectful and Kind with the capacity to provide leadership in the embedding of the values in all aspects of service delivery.
  8. Undertake other duties appropriate to this level of classification which contribute to the operation of the organisation.

  • Ability to respond to and prioritise competing and often urgent requests in a calm and efficient manner while also maintaining high work standards and accuracy.
  • Ability to work within a multi-disciplinary team and adapt quickly to a changing environment.
  • Understanding of the Mental Health Act 2015
  • Application of recovery-based interventions, trauma informed care, and strengths-based approaches to care provision.
  • Understanding risk and escalation of concerns through the team leader and team, such as MDT processes, RISKMAN, clinical supervision and other supportive frameworks.
  • DHR competence and ongoing standard expectations for updating skillset to ensure statistical and data collection requirements are met.

Qualifications

Specific responsibilities include but are not limited to the following.

Essential

For Nursing:

  • Tertiary Qualification in nursing.
  • Registered or eligible for registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA).

For Occupational Therapy:

  • Be registered or eligible for registration with Occupational Therapy Board of Australia.
  • Eligibility for professional membership of Occupational Therapy Australia.

For Social Work:

  • Degree in Social Work.
  • Professional membership or eligibility for professional membership of the Australian Association of Social Workers (AASW).
  • Registration under the ACT Working with Vulnerable People Act 2011.

For Psychology:

  • Be registered or be eligible for general registration with Psychology Board of Australia.

Desirable

For All:

  • Post Graduate Qualification in relevant discipline or another relevant stream.

For Psychology:

  • Approved or eligible for approval as a Psychology Board of Australia Principal and/or Secondary Supervisor for 4+2 interns and/or Higher Degree Students.

CHS is leading the drive to digitally transform health service delivery in Australia through the implementation of a territory wide Digital Health Record. Computer literacy skills are required which are relevant to this role as you will be responsible for completing required documentation and becoming a proficient user of the Digital Health Record and/or other Information Technology systems; once proficient, you will need to remain current with changes, updates, and contingencies.

Key selection criteria

  1. Demonstrated expert clinical knowledge of mental health services, demonstrated ability to promote and ensure the delivery of high-quality community mental health services, and proven experience to oversee relevant assessment, transport assistance, treatments and interventions with a recovery framework.
  2. Proven leadership, time management skills and the ability to communicate with influence, and proven leadership in the use of DHR and ability to use DHR for strategic planning and completion of KPI’s.
  3. Demonstrated ability to build competence within the multi-disciplinary team in collaboration, including supporting the Team leader in performance planning with staff and working within relevant legislation.
  4. Demonstrated understanding of the National Standards for Mental Health Services, and current mental health service sector within the ACT.
  5. Demonstrates understanding of, and adherence to, safety and quality standards, work, health, and safety (WH&S) and the positive patient experience. Displays behaviour consistent with CHS’s values of reliable, progressive, respectful and kind.
